How hard would it be to put subs and an amp into a 1996 Formula seeing how I've got t-tops so there is no trunk space? Also, what are the best speakers, subs, and amps available? The common answer for speakers seems to be infinity, and I believe Rockford Fosgate is a good amp maker. I'm not sure about subs though. Thanks for any help you can give.

I (keep in mind the audio configuration for a 94) have a 1.5 Din Pioneer 45x4 MOSFET headunit feeding 4 Clarion 6.5" 2-ways, 2 tweeters mounted where the moulded hanger hooks were, and an Infinity Bass-Link (self amplified true-200W 10" sub w/built in 10" reverb chamber, built in cross-over, gain controls, etc) set in the bottom of the trunk bucket.

You asked how hard it would be... The answer: Very easy if you have any sort of car audio experience at all...

The amp/sub set-up we put in Matt's 97 included a Rockford Fosgate 900W amp and a 10" Kicker Comp CVR in one of those boxes which fit on the left side, opposite the spare tire... that set-up kicked HARD....

There are any various ways you can do it... all of which would be easy...

I reccomend www.etronics.com for ALL of you car audio needs. For example, my bass Link listed for $475 in Crutchfield, and I paid $249 for it on eTronics!

I have T-Tops as well, it would be easier with the box I talked about Matt having, b/c it would rob no space from the T-Top storage slots.. but I just turn mine handle towards the rear bumber and lay them in there that way... one on top of another.

aight, the way i got mine sounding good.... My setup was as follows

Alpine CDA-9830 head unit. I REALLY love this headunit cus it gives you the features of MUCH more expensive ones in a simple little well priced unit. Retail on it is around $380. Its got built-in crossovers, a VERY good bass controller 3 sets of preouts and it powers the cabin speakers with 50Wx4

Like nick said, the sub i had is a Kicker CVR. Make sure its the new series, the old Comp Vr stuff isnt as good. I had this in a box from thewoodshop.com which apparently isnt up anymore. check out subthump.com. they have the same box.

This was powerd by a rockford 301S amp. sounded great IMO

I can't really give you any info on which subs, amps, speakers, etc are the best cause that answer really depends on what you want from your system and how much you're willing to spend. But on the placement of the amps several people I know who have cars with T-Tops and who don't want to lose the ability to use their t-top holder mounted their amps verticially in the hole where the t-tops go on the side where the hatch release mechanism is.

first off, what kinda sound are you looking for? Do you want a system that is heard from down the block, resulting in accelerated hearing loss?.....or do you just want a good sounding personal entertainment system in your car.

figure this out and thats what you should base you brand choices on. i work at a car audio buisness so i can be of some help here....PM me or lets just keep this thread going

hope i can help

Finding a place for the amps should be relatively easy. It's finding a location for the subs that's the issue. Since space is already at a premium in these cars your options are limited, more than likely to those mentioned above. I'm contemplating going with a pair of 8" "free-air" subs mounted in the stock rear seat/sail panel locations (obviously will have to be enlarged), since I don't want to lose my t-top holder and I have a CD changer mounted in the empty well on the driver's side rear. I'm just trying to get up the nerve to start cutting!

BTW, I ran a pair of Fosgate DVC Punch 10" subs in a sealed box off a Fosgate Punch 75 bridged to mono and it hit pretty hard. Good small bass set-up IMHO.

Thanks for the help. I figured that the opposite side of the spare tire was the best place but wasn't sure. Just figured i'd check with the experts here to try to see what you guys thought. Thanks again.

Also, thanks for the etronics and subthump sites, looked like good stuff. I would have needed a place to buy a box anyway. Crutchfield is great with customer service and speed but etronics looks like it is a lot cheaper. Thanks again, peace.
