Ok so my friend's friend has this srt-4 with a cut-out. He is telling me it would smoke my car.... I kinda laughed and was like, dude you have a neon. He told me it hung with a z06 from a 40 mph punch. Though I dont think real racing is from a punch I also think a z06 would kill a srt-4. so what is up? does this kid really have what it takes to beat a slightly modded lt1?

I have run with an SRT-4 (not a race, just fun on the 5 FWY). He hung in there pretty good, once the turbo spooled up. It has like 230 horses, and 0-60 in like 5.8. I'd say those numbers combined with that the weight advantage would make it a close race. Is the guy any good at shifting? You'd have a better chance if he missed a shift or stalled while trying to powershift.

Its hard to say: there are a lot of those srt-4's around where I live, but unfortunately i havent had the opportunity to play with one yet (funny how the cars that are actually WORTH racing are always going in the opposite direction, eh?). I think it would be a fun race to watch though: an LT1 against a new Turbo-4. But be careful, he might have more mods than he's letting on... but as far as this guy with a cut-out beating a Z-06.... is that the only mods he has?? Im driving an LS1, and my car wont touch a Z-06, even with the few mild mods i'm undertaking...lol i'd love to find a base C-5 vette though... i think i'd give it a good run for its money at the very least... muwah-haha

Only one way to find out...just run him. So what if you lose. But ih he's one of those that will never let you live it down and you just can't stand the thought of losing to him, get more mods, then race him.
Oh and don't lose

I agree, no chance that a cut-out SRT-4 will even come remotely close to even a totally stock C5 ZO6.

that is what I was saying, he "says" he spanks c5's all day and hangs with z06's. I mean, I know on the highway lt1's aren't known the best for a 40-60 mph punch, that seems more like the ls1's game, but from a stop i think i could beat this guy. The worst part is i dont mind losing if i did, I've lost to not so nice cars before just because either I messed up somehow or that one time i lost to a turbo talon because my opti decided to explode. anyway the worst part is he lives in fort worth a good ways away from houston and is only talking mess on the phone through our mutual friend. just kinda annoying, but whenever our paths cross we'll see who the faster one is

if he is tellin the truth about mods then he should be runnin mid to low 14s. that is no where near the back of a c5 or zo6 vette. with a good launch i think u could hold him off. but go from a dig, they are sposed to be real nice from a roll u know start in the boost.

Just send him a picture comparing your Bird to his Neon (eh-hem...I mean SRT-4). Maybe another picture of a Bird kicking its rear end out on a launch. You could drop a small block Chevy in a Renault Alliance and beat a lot of other cars, but you'd still be driving a Renault! Looks still count for something.

yea you are right, I could roll up in a neon to pick up girls, or roll up in a bright red formula with sparkling wheels and a rumble from within.... hmm.... I know which one I'd pick what about you guys? lol

They can be fast depending on how much money is spent on them.

ANYTHING can be fast depending on how much is spent on them. But if you want my opinion, i'd rather spend my money on moddin my lil Birdie than some turbo 4-banger that sounds like a wind-up toy. Oh well, to each their own i guess. Hey if you ever do race him, tell him the guys from TFS say hi, and if im ever in the Texas area, i'll race him too!

So Sport Compact Car Magazine did this SRT-4 Project car a while back. If I remember right the "Straight-Thru" exhaust they put on it actually cost them HP and Torque. If this guy has messed with his exhaust at all, you could have a real good chance of spankin' him below 100mph

yes, my friends! We call that torque based on exhaust back-pressure! Take away the back pressure, take away the torque. When I put the corsa on my bird, I noticed a small reduction in back pressure (to be expected), but it wasn't enough to noticibly effect preformance.

I dont really know much about the LT1... never driven one personally. How's the high-end performance? Seems like most if not all of its pulling power (comparatively at least) comes fro a dead stop. what are its strengths/weaknesses compared to an LS1? Its kinda off topic i know, but im here to learn, so any opportunity i'll ask a question.

As a general rule, LT1s are less rev happy, but they tend to make better torque for a longer time than LS1s. The bigger peak numbers from LS1s are mainly due to the long deep breathes the Gen. III motors take. Basically the LT1 consisted of 60's technology under modern EFI and aluminum heads and intake. Oh yeah, there was the optical distributor(Optispark) and reverse flow cooling, but that is about it. Give credit where due, and GM did a lot with a very old starting point. Do I even need to mention that the aftermarket is pretty big for small block chevys, so just like any other you can build 'em crazy strong.
And about some SRT-4s, yeah they will go, but they are prone to troubles it seems. You pretty much have to put a lot into them to get them right and make them last.

don't worry about an srt-4. i raced one at the tracks and it pulled a 14.8 et. what was funny is that he was talking ###### about camaro z28 lt1's while in line and guess who he ended up having to race? an lt1

. every time he shifted i would gain on him, god i love automatics

i think i would define that SRT's situation as "cruel irony".... those make the best kills. Go show that turbo-box what REAL irony tastes like!
oh, and thank you Blackbird Jon, for the crash-course in LT1s. Its appreciated.

I saw a bone stock one run in the 13's stock. In Albuquerque (5400ft) so don't take him to lightly, there are factory freaks in all types of cars.

the car i ran ran a higher trap speed than i did but a slower speed it just had no torque out of the hole it went 109 i rant 106

I actually got a chance to race one the other day, it was far from stock though, turbo upgrade etc. I just wanted to see what I could do, we went from about a 30-40 punch, he had the advantage being in a standard and my car had to downshift, I pulled better than i thought I would but as he pulled on me and shifted he blew this big flame out of the exhaust. it looked awesome, I need to get a squire twin turbo system, that would be nice now wouldnt it? lol

LOL. That's one way to get a 4-banger down to V8 style gas mileage

$3.09?!

My wife and I were met for dinner (arriving separately) and we both had to stop on the way home for fuel. We thought about stopping in one part of town where unleaded regular was 2.749. Instead, we stopped on the other side of town and fueled up for $2.609. Crazy! You really have to shop around right now. Can gas wars be far off? Most stations make their money retailing. Fuel is usually a break-even commodity and sometimes a loss leader. When stations get desperate to keep people walking through the doors, maybe things will change.

Aug 27 2005, 03:29 AM
no, the money's definitely not going to the gas station owners...well....unless they are company owned stations.
