Ive tried searching the stores and the net with no luck on finding a different style automactic shifter for inside the car...

Anyone know of any good sites? The style can be same design T bar type shifter or rounded with button in the top (not sure if this style would fit tho) in red/black and can have red neons, it doesnt have to have neons inside the handle but w/ would be more prefered.

Thanks for any replies in advance!

If anyone has it, these guys do.

The aftermarket has stayed away from building shifters to work with the electronic version of the 4L60E. Possibly some issues with attempting to over-ride the electronic controls????

I've seen people on other boards claim they've made some of the popular Hurst and B&M shifters work, including a ratchet type. Not sure how they did it.

I have a B&M Pro-Ratchet, tucked neatly into what used to be my stock T56 console, but its controlling a manual valve body TH400, so that's no help.

same here, B&M quicksilver in my 94 but I have a 700R4 not a 4L60E

My car came with the 2.73:1 rearend and therefore no 1st gear position on the stock shifter, all the 3.23:1 geared cars have shifters that can manually select first gear. What all do I need to change over to a shifter like that? What is everyone else doing about it? I haven't seen any factory auto shifters on eBay so there must not be much of a demand for this. I tried searching for a post here, but no luck. I don't want an aftermarket shifter - just one of the good factory 4th gen ones.

Actually 94Formula350 you do have 1st gear, it's just with the 2.73 gears being able to shift into it has been block by a small plastic piece. To be able to shift into 1st all you need to get a different shift selector plate and do is the following:

You need to take the "top" of the center console off so you have access to under where the gear selector is. Once you have the top off you need to look along the side where the shifter pulls down to select the gears. Looking there down by where 1st gear would be/is you'll see a small piece of plastic (I think it's a white square/rectangle if I remember right). It'll be real close to the very end of the shift selector area. Once you find that small piece of plastic you just need to take something like a cut/box knife or a small hacksaw blade and remove that piece of plastic. Once that piece of plastic is completely out of the way you'll be able to shift the car into 1st without any problems.

After you have that all done, you need to replace the shift plate that doesn't have 1st gear showing on it with one that does have 1st gear select on it.

Now after doing that you just need to reassemble everything and you're good to go with the stock shifter and set up and you'll have 1st gear select on your car.

Thank you for posting this reply. I work in parts at a Chevy dealership and I saw that GM lists 2 diff shifters and top plates so I figured I'd have to buy them. I'm glad to know I can just modify mine.
BTW can I change my ID on here? I joined a few days before I bought the car and it turned out to be a 96 instead of a 94 like the owner had said. Good for me.

You're welcome for the help.

Yea I should be able to change it for you with no problem. So you want it to read 96Formula350 instead of 94Formula350 correct?

Think he might be talking about a shifter handle... if he isn't, well, I am! That is what I need, I seem to have a problem with breaking the stock shifter handle, in fact right now I'm running a Camaro shifter handle and have been for some time dry.gif

I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but if you're looking for a stock style shifter knob and you don't want to pay the price for a new Firebird one I've found out that the ones from the early 2000 model years of the Grand Prix and Grand Am will work on our cars with no problem at all. cool.gif
