Full Version: Replacing LED in radio controls in steering wheel

in my 95 Firebird, I was able to easily pull out the right radio control in the steering wheel, there was just enough wire to pull it out and unclip it.

(I have someone to replace the LED in the module because it no longer lights up)

However, the left side seams there is not enough wire to pull it out to get it out and unclip it or to put it back in even if I did. I'm wondering if anyone else tried it and is there another way I'm supposed to get that left one out, or should I just keep pulling, it really feels like there is no slack to get it out.

thoughts?

If I'm not mistaken your supposed to take the airbag out first then that gives ya lots of room to take it out.

Before removing the airbag, make sure you disconnect the appropriate fuses. Dont want that airbag in your face do you?

I've never messed with the airbag, I'm thinking I'll leave the radio control alone or get someone to help me with it... thanks again. Tony

in case anyone wants to know the replacement bulb that worked for me was radio shack part number 272-1154 bi-pin lamp for about $1.50. The old lamp on the radio control had a red rubber cover, you take that off, then remove the bulb (I had someone do it for me) and put the new one in and put the red cover back over it. One caution: be careful when taking apart the control, I scratched the top cover where you press and now the light shines through it where it's scratched, a little model paint I hope will touch it up. take care.

The light above my driver's side door handle is out. Does anyone know if the "radio shack part number 272-1154 bi-pin lamp" will work for this as well?

Thanks,

No, that bulb is different.

I believe you're going to want a "194" bulb that's available at most parts stores.
