well i pulled the tranny this afternoon and put my 2800 rpm converter back in it and put it back in the car. around 5 i headed off for the track to see if my theory was true or not (wether or not the car was faster with the stock converter). the car launches harder with the 2800 rpm converter but traps 3 mph slower and almost 4 tenths slower!!! what is wrong with this setup the converter flashes to 3200 when i launch it just doesn't make sense its almost 2 tenths faster in the 60'.
so in conclusion for the time being my car is faster with the stock converter
stock- 13.1@107 2.35 60'
2800- 13.4@104 2.11 60'

Has to be a stall issue. Maybe the 2800 is too much of a stall for your car! I have seen this in the past. Overstall a car and it will indeed run slower ET's
On my car I picked up almost .5 with my stall.

that stall converter will only stall to 2500 rpm max th transmission is now acting up and it takes off in second and if i get it to down shift into first it will skip second and go right to third and won't shift into 4th so its coming out and a 6 speed conversion is going in this is my 5th tranny in a little over a year it just won't hold clutches the last time i followed the gm service manual to a T right down to all the tolerances and it went about 4 months with only 3 trips to the track 3 runs each time! and i baby it around town (gas prices!) and in second gear i can mat it from a stop and it will stall to 2500 and no higher.

There is no reason that your tranny can't be built to handle almost any HP level you throw at it! Did you rebuild it yourself? Have you ever done this before? I am not by any means knocking your ability but sometimes it is best to bring it to a pro. It is like rear end gears you might think you have them all set up right and the back lash set correct but they still wear out or make a ton of noise.
I could pull my tranny slap it in your car and you would have Zero problems. I wouldn't give up on the automatic just yet. That said a 6 speed is a ton of fun. If you do convert take alot of pictures and let us know how it comes out.
Have a good one
