this kid that was in my school with a 2002 wrx with Catback, intake, blowoff valve, and racing springs that keeps talkin crap. i pulled on this kid pretty good from like 30-90mph just before i got my bird tuned up but he keeps tellin everyone that he would beat me and i only beat him because he had two guys in his car . this kid is really startin to ###### me off. do you think he has a chance even with out the extra weight??
i just ran a 13.7 @100 with a 60 of 2.0

Sep 29 2005, 04:00 AM
you've got a shot, but I wouldn't exactly bet money on it, if you know what I mean. WRXs are pretty darn fast, and with that AWD they have, there's almost no loss of traction. Good luck!

Sep 29 2005, 04:05 AM
yea i think i will take him the only thing that scares me is the 4 wheel drive launch
Tyler
Sep 29 2005, 04:22 AM
Race him from a roll and he loses that take off advantage.
KRockLS1
Sep 29 2005, 04:40 AM
maybe put some octane booster in for that race, and make sure your gas tank is like on 1/4 for less weight.
caldramaguy
Sep 29 2005, 07:21 AM
Like Tyler says.. take him from a roll. If its from a dead stop, he's pretty much got ya up to about 40-50mph.. then you'll probably catch up to him and then pull ahead.. if you stay @ WOT the entire time

. Your cars sound like they're about equals... it may be the human factor that wins the day... GO GET 'EM!!!
...and if this lil ricer keeps talkin trash, remind him that your car is almost a decade older than his

, and obvioulsy has no problems keeping with his turbo-4... proof positive that there's no replacement for displacement

There is a modded WRX laying 325 at the wheels here. I ran him last night and he got in it before I did ( did not know he wanted to race) and I left him until I hit 2nd and kicked sideways on the highway, water. I think it will be fun none the less.
Give him hell and see what he can do.

i did race another wrx once that had a bigger turbo and ran a 12.9 and we were dead even from 40-90

If it's the WRX STI you better be carefull I've seen some really fast ones.

Sep 30 2005, 03:21 AM
non sti i dont think the kid knows how to drive either
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 04:28 AM
then your all set... if he cant drive well, there's no way he can handle a car with like a wrx... too complex, AWD cars like that need a really good driver to be affective. Tell him he should trade it in for a Formula or a Trans Am... he might stand a chance then!!
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 04:29 AM
Not that these cars are easy to drive... just more user-friendly than those cars are...
KRockLS1
Sep 30 2005, 05:12 AM
actually, I think F-bodies are amongst some of the most difficult cars to drive. There's a pretty big blind spot, the turning radius is really wide, and the car has a lot of power (obviously). I'll tell you, that the "extra car" (2005 Hyundai Elantra) feels like it drives itself compared to my formy.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 05:40 AM
Hmmm, KRock, i guess your right... i dont really think about it that much since my T/A is my daily driver LOLOL!! It's become second-nature to me... Muwah-haha!
KRockLS1
Sep 30 2005, 05:57 AM
i know what you're saying. I drive my formy every day and I'm totally used to it, but it's funny how much easier it is to drive a little FWD.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 06:10 AM
yah, a fwd with... half the hp??
hmmmm now that i think about it, i dont think i've ever driven a fwd for a considerable period of time... first car was a 69 mustang, then a 96 mustang, now my T/A... RWD all the way baby! lol.
I wouldnt mind driving onna those WRX's though, just to see what an AWD car feels like, or an EVO. Not saying i'd BUY one, but drive one, yah, sure.
KRockLS1
Sep 30 2005, 06:22 AM
half the HP? Try like 1/3

Either way, that's why I don't think I could buy a FWD and feel good about it. The handling is just....well...bad. I really like the Grand Prix GXP, it's plush, has DVD naviation, nice moon roof, auto climate, all the comforts and nice styling. It even has quad exhaust! But that FWD!!!!!! As I was driving it around the track at drive center, I loved the power... but the cornering was marginal at best and doing burnouts from the front wheels??? Just doesn't seem kosher!

yes. The best of both worlds is AWD. I regulrly drive a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali with full time AWD tied to that 6.0L (iron LS2) and its a lot of fun. I mean it can corner, accelerate and haul. And that autoride suspension is really (REALLY!) smooth.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 07:06 AM
Sweet... iron LS2... im geussin that'll hold up to twin turbos really well... another dream project... not sure what i like more, droppin in an LS2 or an LS7 into my birdie when this motor gets swapped out down the road... muwah-haha! hehehe dreams are good. Tonight for example, i'll dream of smashing a coupla WRX STi's and then some Evos... then some Cobras... crazy forced-induction cars...

I beat a STI the other night at the track. Those things launch like a bullet. But seam to run out of steam on top end. Be careful traction is a must. Longer the distance better the chance too.

ya, I thought about doing TTs or a blower (PLENTY of room in the engine compartment) but right now I'm working on getting an exhaust and intake for it.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 06:13 PM
im doing exhaust/intake sometime in the next month... my FTRA comes in sometime soon... i hope, and im gonna hopefully acquire Borla exhaust in a week or two, also. Its so exciting gettin new parts!!
Doug
Sep 30 2005, 07:04 PM
All I will say is MAYBE!!! I lost to one because there was a bit of sand on the ground. I have beat STi's but they are not anything to shrug off!
I actually respect them and think they are ok cars.
At least it is supposed to be a rally car from the factory and not a dressed up civic!
I don't consider them rice as much as all the little Civics I see around.

Sep 30 2005, 07:49 PM
Doug puts a VERY good point forward... There's a guy i know who's going to have a 700+hp STi... now of course he's puttin in $36,xxx on top of what he bought it for, so im not sure if that counts
They're becoming a little more numerous around me, and i always look and LISTEN to see if they have done anything. One of the tell-tale signs for those cars is the exhaust. If its modded at all, the car sounds FUNKY compared to stock.
KRockLS1
Sep 30 2005, 08:37 PM
ya. the one's that spray go real good. But then again... it's kind of hard to find a car with Nitrous that doesn't really move when on the spray.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 09:03 PM
True true true. A guy i know has a 400+hp LS1 Z-28 with a 300-shot. His fastest run, was a 9-something with a 150-shot!! Tempting, but i think i'd SC/TT my car before i used the bottle. Its a good tool, but the temporary power isnt really appealing to me.
A lot of Integras and Civics and such use the bottle around here... bleh. The one that ive raced got really upset when his bottle couldnt get his front-end past my rear-view mirror...
KRockLS1
Sep 30 2005, 09:25 PM
ya, i've gone up against a late model Civic Type-R with at least a 100HP shot from about 65 on the freeway. He didn't enjoy the fact that the LS1 trounced his 4-banger-on-bottle in every concievable way. I wouldn't put Nitrous on any aluminum engine I wanted to last more than about 30K miles.
caldramaguy
Sep 30 2005, 09:40 PM
SHEESH!! 100-shot on that lil engine?!?!? wonder how much longer THATS gonna last him. I suppose those are cheaper than ours, so he can afford to replace the motor more often.

Putting motors in those is like putting another hamster in a cage.
KRockLS1
Oct 1 2005, 01:28 AM
exactly. When my friend's RSX Type-S sadly lost to me a couple months ago, i told him to "put another gerbil on the hamster-wheel next time"
Doug
Oct 1 2005, 01:47 AM
LOL hamster.. that is awesome I can see the hamster wheel going around and around lol.
I have said it a ton of times a nitrous is by far the best bang for the buck but it isn't always on and is illegal on the street. I consider it a race only mod, and that said if I ever build a race only car it will be juiced to the gills.

you guys know what's funny? seeing a honda civic SI race you without you knowing it, (you know how those ricers do, wait untill you're busy at a stoplight playin with your radio or something and "launch" when the light turns green) and then seeing it pull off to the side of the road when it puffs out a huge cloud of dark black smoke. that was the highlight of my week.
KRockLS1
Oct 5 2005, 01:47 AM
lol. awesome. ya, that's happened to me a few times. Once, I had the A/C on, and I was changing CDs, so the guy got a good 5-10 second head start... I went ahead and ran him with the A/C on, didn't take him long to find himself staring at my taillights!

wow i picked a good topic to start its still going, well anyway i just had that problem tonight on the highway a 350z wit some mods did i ricer fly by and pulled in the far lane at a light . I thought he was making a right so i didnt think he wanted to race. the light went and i realized he hammered it so i got on it and passed him at about 60 i put 2 quick cars to about 90 and let off. i thought those cars were suppose to be real fast. i could see his aftermarket exhaust and that he was lowered onto some big rims so im guessing he had some other mods.
KRockLS1
Oct 7 2005, 03:04 AM
stupid ricers usually don't realize that the 22" rims, although a flashy accessory, really don't help the car accelerate any
formy94
Oct 7 2005, 03:20 AM
lolol there was also this hot girl with a modded civic trying to race me tonight i just kept right next to her at about half throttle until i got sick to my stomach and had to silence that stupid fart can . i usually am ruthless when it comes to ricers but i gave her a break because she was hot and blonde.
KRockLS1
Oct 7 2005, 03:28 AM
LOL I know exactly what you mean about the fart-can exhaust and just wanting to silence it. I usually roll up my windows and have some "appropriate" music on when I race.

I've been having a real shortage of ricers here wanting to race me. Maybe they're getting smart enough to realize that when i IDLE louder than they accelerate, they shouldnt mess with me...

Come to think of it, i've been having a good shortage of ANY cars wanting to race me... its a little upsetting, but i just figure that im waiting to smoosh some rustangs or something.... or stock C-5 vettes,

.
KRockLS1
Oct 8 2005, 07:37 AM
ya, it's weird. back when I used to drive a v6 firebird, there was no shortage of cars wanting to race me. Now... everyone looks down at the "FORMULA" tag, before they show me the whites of their eyes... much harder to get a race.

Oct 8 2005, 10:11 AM
Or MAYBE.... they've already been certified at the "School of F-Body", and dont feel the need for another lesson. Its a justifiable argument i bet. Too bad, really. Looks like i need to be patient and just wait for a whole buncha the new 'Stang GTs to start poppin up in the hands of youngsters like me. . . a whole new generation of Ponies have yet to attend School around here... Muwah-hah!

Oct 8 2005, 04:06 PM
i know how you feel!
i live in long island and there seems to be an EXTREME shortage of anyone with balls!
there is NO shortage of ricers, but the only thing they have done is cosmetic and fart cans! (sorry i stole the term but its funny)
i ve seen somw wrx's and evo's and some muscle cars but no one wants to race.
the best ive done is a hundred yard drag against my uncle's '99 C5 (lame cause i smoked him!)
maybe i should put a sign up or change my plates to "wnnarce".
dont know but still looking.

Oct 8 2005, 06:07 PM
ya... latley, people just don't want to race... every now and again i'll find like a Bullitt mustang on the road, and blow past...but they never take the hint...maybe he just knows he has no chance

Oct 8 2005, 07:39 PM
*sigh*. Alas, thus is the cost of supremacy..

. I've seen a few Mach 1's, much like you, Kevin, and all the C5 vettes arond here are driven by middle-aged women.. no offense to women intended (if Sue reads this, im toast!

), but when did the Corvette become a secretary car ?!?!?! GAH!!! The only guys i know who drive'em would completely blow me away, they take stock C5 Z06's and makem Viper Killers... alas.
I think we're just in our own category of fastness: Faster than anything that costs less than bookoo $$$$$, slower than vipers and a lot of porsches... *sigh* The only thing we can race is ourselves, and i hardly ever see F-Bodies around here that are willing to race.
SassySue09
Oct 8 2005, 07:59 PM
I saw it - your toast.

It's cool though. It's the same way here with the Vettes, they're either driven by gals who don't race or by guys so are so old they need walkers when they're not driving them.

We've got lots of ricers and stuff around here who love to rev at me when I'm driving my cars (they don't rev though when my husband is driving them though

weird) To me they're not worth my time or the waste of gas. Still it's fun sitting next to one in my 99 with it's slight lope and they rev at me. I let them rev a couple of times just ignoring them for a bit then I rev back. It's hilarious watching the color drain from their faces when they realize they've picked the wrong car to rev at.

Oct 8 2005, 08:08 PM
MMMM, now that we mention it, im craving toast... cinnamon toast, yum.

I digress. That is a great feeling, shutting those ricers up... muwah-haha! MAN! now im in dire need of a good race, too. This is really getting my blood pumping. Oh well, when it comes, i'll embrace it and go WOT all the way!
