This happened a week or so, forgot to post until now:

So i was driving home around midnight, just pulled off the freeway and into my left-hand turn lane. I see a silver C5 Vette pass me going straight, think to myself "they never go the same way, darn", and go on my way when the light turns green.

Now, the street i turn onto is a long, two lane straight-away about 5 miles or so long, with a 45mph speed limit, well lit: good conditions, if you will. Im puttering around 50mph, 6th gear, nobody else ahead or behind me within eyesight, im alone on this road.

Then i see it coming. A set of headlights, coming in fast so i get ready to drop it into a lower gear, just in case its somebody worth fooling around with. As he gets closer, i can see it now: a silver C5 Vette. Funny i thought to myself, two silver Vettes in 5 minutes. He's still going pretty fast (say 70ish), so i figure i'll try my luck as i drop down to 3rd gear and go WOT.

Now my car is LOUD @ 4500 rpms WOT and gaining b/c of my cut out, but after i gun it, i hear a sound that is disticntly NOT my car, so loud you cant hear my car at all. The noise it turns out is coming from that Vette, and it proceeds to fly past me like im standing still. ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif blink.gif !!!!

So i admit defeat and back off, obviously that car could smear me all over the street any day of the week. It stops at the intersection about a 1/4mile ahead of me... but the light is green huh.gif . Then it dawns on me as im pulling into the left-hand turn lane (like i was going to anyway): It's my friend. He drives a 485rwhp C5 Z06, and its silver.

I roll the window down and say hello. We talk about how much better i held up against him then regular C5 vettes, then we say goodnight.

BLAH. Didnt see that one coming, but im glad he whooped me, and not some stranger. This is the guy who helps me with all my car stuff, i call him the Guru sometimes. I've always known his Z06 could whoop me, just didnt ever think we'd have the chance to have a go at it. Especially not @ midnight on a tuesday. Oh well.

heads a good tune headers some weight off and a 100 shot u could take him but a 485hp(?to the wheels) is a monstar without a doubt. thats a fun death. or how bout sts read mount twin turbos set up thatd be fun. good story

Yah, monster is a good word for it! When he bought it, it was puttin down 383 at the wheels, now hes got it to 485 to the ground. Just with cam, bolt ons and a tune. WHOOOO those LS6 motors are nuts. Cant wait to see what that LS7 will be capable of!

I was bracket racing on night at the strip and I pair up against this evil looking 60's Camaro with a blower sticking out of the hood. I had a several second tree advantage and I could hear my Mac catback a howling. Then I hear IT take off. The sound of my car quickly diminished as that car blew past me at the end. He ran a 9 something. He won the race to.
KRockLS1
cool deal. Those ZO6s can be rediculously fast. Do you know if the silver ZO was a 2001 or a 2002-2004?
caldramaguy
Its an 01... which makes it the first year of the LS6, but whats the diff between the 01 and the 02-04's?

I dunno if I clarified, but that first Vette i saw was him. He saw my car and came back to play. Funny, but kinda cruel. Thats what friends are for though, eh?
KRockLS1
01 was the first year. No HUD, factory est. 385 HP (but I have extensive experience in an 01 (my dad has one) and at the least it's 385 HP to the rear wheels, GM really low-balled it for some reason). In 02, they added HUD some more standard options and they re-badged it to 405 HP. But lemme tell you, that car is a BULLET, even stock.

A blurb in a recent edition of Motor Trend states that the 505 HP rating for the C6 Z06 is underrated. They say it is more like 550 HP! (That's stock, kiddies!)
caldramaguy
If he smoked me that badly in his 01... imagine the speed on the 06's... 20 MORE HP STOCK!!! We have some catch-up to play, guys. blink.gif

the 06 zo6 stock is puttin down 440hp and 410 lbs. this may seem low to u but the hp is rgith where it should be with power train loss and the tq is so low because of the torque mangement system which is poo. but LG motorsports put headers on and picked up40hp and 50lbsft. so thats crazy and they put on 1 3/4 headers tehy havent tried 1 7/8 tubes yet.

A friend of mine bought a 6.0 block put in some good pistons and rotating assembly parts. Still around 10.5 compression bolted on ported LS1 heads with bigger valves a nice cam sorry dont know the specs it is big though. And made 525+ RWHP with it through a T56 and a 9" rear.

Scary what a 6.0L block LS1 can do.

My next project is a 99-00 LS1 high miles (so read cheap to get car) sell the longblock (as long as it is good of course) buy a 6.0L stroke it and resleeve it to make a 7.0L 427 drop on some AFR LS6 heads a solid roller cam LSX intake and see what 650+ RWHP feels like. N/A of course!

I know for a fact that the LS7 is in fact way underrated. My engine builer has a crate engine and on the dyno it made over 640 HP with no accesories and 1 3/4" headers on a chasis dyno. That corrected is about 545+HP (once it is in the car with all the accesories and emmisions).

He is putting the engine is a tube framed 69 Camaro that without an engine weighs 2600 LBS, It is lowered and every detail is modern from brakes to cage and has a built TH400 with a gear vendors set up. it is a sick all fiberglass (except for the quaters and rocker panels) car.

It is costing the owner almost 100K to build. It has about 6 layers of what is called Ultimate Black Gloss paint on it (don't know the paint manufacturer PPG, Dupont???).

It has 5.someting (5.25's???) rear gears and is amazing. it makes a Foose car look funny. it is not a trailor queen though as it is going to be driven. The rear gears are going to be changed to 4>10's for street use.

Oh the engine was dyno'd stock and is being totaly built the owner wants upward of 900HP.

The car is going to totaly throw the front wheels in the air high at launch without wheelie bars.

Now if the car comes in at around 3000LBS with that sort of power it is a serious car. Brian (the car builder) is building it for this guy for the Hot Rod Power Tour and the 1 Lap of America.

The scary thing about this car is it is goign to be completly street legal!

If the owner lets me I will add pictures of the car on here when it is done in about a month.
