My power antenna goes up as soon as the radio is turned on, whether I turn the tuner on, or the cd player. Is there a relay that needs to be replaced or are the antennas on the 98+ firebirds like this. My 96 doesnt come up if I'm listening to a cd, only if I switch to tuner. Thanx.

in my 97 the antenna goes up as soon as the unit is turned on, doesnt matter am/fm radio or cd player if the unit is on the antenna is up.

Yup, it's the same with both my 97 and 99. Turn the headunit on and the antenna goes up and stays up until either the headunit is turned off or the car is off and the door's been opened up to shut off the retained accessory power (RAP) module.

ya, the car is wired to activate the power antanna as soon as power goes to the unit. I have about 50/50 between CDs and Radio, but I sure do wish GM would have tied the antanna relay into the Radio buttons only :/ There are some people who have installed switches to override the antanna, but I haven't gotten around to doing this yet.

Thanks for the reply's, I'm about 95% cd's since I have a pioneer mp3 player installed. I guess, i'll install a switch to override it. Little things like that just bug me, lol.

If you don't mind the antenna being up all the time, you can just turn on the headunit so the antenna goes up, then leaving the headunit on so the antenna stays up, go to the back where the antenna is and you can pull the connector apart for the power to the antenna motor. Just be sure to leave the actual headunit to antenna connector hooked up. If you do that the radio will still be able to work but the antenna won't go up and down but it will act like a fixed antenna instead.

Actually thats the problem, I want the antenna down most of the time. I guess I just got used to the 96, but I think it has an aftermarket unit.
