What oil weight do the V8 TPI 5.0 liter engines take?
ChaseHammer

Depending on how far north you are and if you run in the winter, put 5w30. If only summer, 10w30 like hammer said.

The above weights are correct. The oil brand is strictly preference.

you have been watching WAY to much TV.

Anyways I use NOTHING but Quaker state. I use 10w30 in my 94. Also synthetic is a GREAT creation for the SBCs.

10w30 is probably the best all-around oil weight.

lmao Jeremy not too much TV i rarely watch it anywho. I only use Castrol products and Syntec happens to be their Full Synthetic product tongue.gif

any synthetic oil will work (sorry didnt mean have to use syntec) also have to look out how old the car is and how many miles in order to look at if you need regular oil, syn. blend or full syn. if you are need the 100-150k milage then i would syn blend. but if more than 150k i would think about full syn. Just know that once you change to full syn you CANNOT go back down.

So what's up with all the oil brands, I was thinking of buying Castrol Syntec 10w-30, but then decided I get Mobil1 Extended Performance 10w-30 at $36 for 6 quarts. Are we trying to only save money by getting the Castrol or is it indeed better than Mobil 1. I mean both are synthetic, but Nascar uses Mobil 1. Also, what damage if any are we talking about when we switch from petroleum based to synthetic?

You mean once I use Synthetic oil I cannot go back using regular oil unsure.gif ? Never heard that before.

Me either. Can some evidence be supplied with that?
