Well i have the stock 1997 10 speaker Monsoon Stereo System. When i bought the car the prev. owner (im assuming) screwed the system up itself with his own amp and speakers and probably a deck. Anyways. I have the stock monsoon deck and the stock door speakers and stock hatch speakers. i have the $20 6.5" speakers from Wal mart where the rear seat woofers were and they are wired into the hatch wires (the stock wires ffor the woofers dont work ??). Well 2 days ago my stereo worked (though it has always sounded really crappy) and now when i turn the volume up it goes up then about 2 seconds later it will just turn down and go silent. If i turn it down and then back up it does the same thing. I have replaced the fuses for the radio/aux power/windows and still does the same thing. I have no clue what can be the problem. i have redone all the connections from the speakers and the deck and still same problem. Also the sound was VERY high pitched. Not much bass at all. I need help with this. Please come through for me again fellas and dames. smile.gif

I'm not exactly an wiring expert, but if you've already changed the fuses... I would look to make sure it's still grounded. Also, check the entire system to make sure wires are secure and making contact. I suppose it's also possible that the deck itself is malfunctioning. Good luck.

I found this post by Fred (Injuneer) on another forum. Sounds like the problems are similar, you might want to try this.

I ***think*** the Monsoon is similar to the Delco 2000 unit that was used in the early 4th Gen Firebirds. The "sub"-woofers next to the rear seats are run off a small module that tucks into the inside of the plastic sail panel near the floor. The sub-woofers are on a separate ciruit and do not run in parallel with the door low frequency drivers. If the wiring does not supply the signal and possibly power to the module in the sail panel, the subs are not going to work.

Just guessing.... but I suspect the "Monsoon" is either just a renaming or a few minor revisions to the Delco 2000 system.
