just bought 800watt pyramid 2 channel amplifier.....i know i usually buy name brand but this offer was to hard to resist.

800watt bridged max power output, 2 channel, 400watt x2 at 4 ohms.....i have installed many systems in cars and this boggles my mind! i figured that usually RMS output is 70.7 percent of max output but a 400watt X 2 max output amp is only putting out....40watts RMS!!!!! mad.gif thats horrible, the RMS rating wasnt shown on the website at the time of purchase.... these #'s cant push 2 250watt RMS 12 inch subs. and im furious.

i own 2 other amps and my 460watt max jensen AMP puts out 85watts RMS X2 at 4 ohms. how is this amp doubling the pyramid output when its only rated at half the power!!! AHHHHHHHH!!

i also bought tweeters rated at 200watts and im afraid to power them with this 800watt amp even though it only puts out 40watts RMS

I have a Pyramid amp to.I use it in my van. It's about 16 years old and has been a great amp.

Perhaps your amp is rated with an 8 ohm load? You should try it before you decide it's not worth it.

haha pyramid amps are not the best pieces to use. But it is not a 40w per channel amp if it is rated 800 wats max then it is rated at about 100 per channel or more. You need to make sure your gains are set to 3/4 and you tune it right. My cousin used to have a 1200 watt 2 channel pyramid amp and he ran 2 rockford fosgate 12 400 watt subs with it and they were pounding.

Ok personally pyramid is crap but my buddy has the same amp that you described and its pushing a rockford fosgate p2 and sounds graet. so i think that you may have just gotten hold of a bad amp. A diffrence in Ohms can also cause simmilar problems. Good luck and hope you solve the problem.

That must be why mine has lasted so long now.
