This is my first post since I only recently purchased the 93' Firebird. I was formerly a poster in the 4x4 message boards and spent alot of time on buried in the mud. I think i'm graduating to pavement...
I've noticed a few things that I immediately wanted to change in the car. I ordered the PAC SwiX converter kit to enable the steering wheel controls but have yet to order a new CD deck. I've thought about the JVC USB drive ones. My main preference is that I want a deck that either has the red lighting or the lighting can be changed. I'm also not happy with the crappy aftermarket DIN converter that was put in the car. I prefer the flush mount compared ot having the deck stick out 2".... I saw the nice illuminated Firebird adapter, but I'm not ready to pay $65 for a mounting bracket at this time. Any suggestions on the deck and adapter?
I also have 10 speakers but I dont believe I have a monsoon setup. I'll start looking for speakers this afternoon (thanks for the post on the sizes).. One of the rear 4" speakers is popping and its getting annoying. I cant decide if one of the front speakers is gone or if the deck that is in there really sucks.
My truck has 2 JL 10's and full Clarion seperates... I've spoiled myself setting that up and might not be used to the noise now.
I've been reading through the posts and I'm not sure how to tell if I have a Monsoon system or not. Its got 10 Speakers but there is no amp in the pass. sail panel. There is a Y that goes from 2 to 4 speaker wires (1" and 4")
Is it really this big of a pain to replace the factory speakers??

The sail panel speakers are a snap to put in,just pop the covers off & take out the screws. The door speakers come out after removing the panels.Still not a bad job to do.All of mine were 6 1/2" speakers and my 93 had none in the back altough some do.The Monsoon system was not around in 93 I dont think.Seems like it became an option in the mid-late 90's.Pioneer speakers had all the holes set up perfectly so thats what I use in the front along with a set of tweeters.I use the stock sail panel speakers and in the back I have an MTX amp pushing a single 10" sub. It's all I need and it thumps pretty good.

Thanks for the reply.
Thats good to know that it wasnt around in 93'. I was starting to be concerned about what I might have to tear apart.
It did get me to thinking however, since there are 10 speakers, whats the setup for the wiring? Normally you're looking at 4 speakers ... the wiring harness would only have 4 wire outs on a standard aftermarket deck.
Any thoughts?

My door speakers were coaxials so thats considered 2 speakers and the pillar speakers are the same things. If you have a bulging door panel where the speaker is I think there is 3 in the door but I'm not positive. My door panels are flat at the speaker. If you have speakers in the rear deck area I believe those are 2 seperate speakers also. Some cars dont have anything in the hatch area, mine do not have any speakers back there, only the doors and side pillars.
The stock speakers do a pretty good job actually and I still use 2 of them.I dont have any amps hooked to them but they ARE right by your head.

Go to best buy for the mounting kit. I got one for my blazer which is the EXACT same on the fiebird uses and it is flush mounted.
As for the speaker setup. The speakers (2 of them a 6 1/2 midrange and 1" tweet) door and the rear hatch panels (4" midrange and 1" tweet) are powered by the deck. The 2 in the back seat sail panels are "subwoofers" ran off a seperate amp that is located behind the sail panel next to the pass. side rear seat by the floor. This is controlled by a pink wire in the stock harness that needs to be tapped into with the remote turn on lead off the aftermarket deck.
