I have the 8 speaker factory CD set up. My door 6" speaker is bad and I need to replace it. Any suggestions as to brand or model? Also people are saying I have a factory amplified system and I cant just put in any speaker. That I would have to use a factory replacement. It is not a Monsoon system. Any Suggestions.....

Thanks
Tyler
If it's not a Monsoon system you can replace it with your favorite aftermarket speakers.I have Pioneer's in mine.Whatever you get it just needs to have 4 mounting holes so it will line up with the factory holes.

And if it's a Monsoon system, unless you wanna do some rewiring you'll really need to go with factory speakers as the replacement. That's cause the Monsoon system uses 2 ohm rather then the standard 4 ohm speakers.

Here is a pic of my I think stk system. Its RPO code UT6. It has door speakers rear seat and cargo. The rear seat are just single cone and the cargo look to be a 2way of some kind as it has a seperate tweeter mounted to the front of the speaker. Now what kind of system is this? It doesnt say Monsoon has less than 10 speakers and more than 4! Im confused.....

Ummm, I hate to tell you this but that isn't the headunit that came in your car when it left the factory. The UT6 code is for an ETR AM/FM stereo with auto reverse cassette with graphic equalizer. The code that should go with the headunit in the pic you posted is UPE (ETR AM/FM stereo with compact disc player with graphic equalizer. And from the pic it doesn't look like you've got a Monsoon system.

One way to check though to see which speakers you need - 2 ohm vs 4 ohm - is to take the speaker that's blown out and look on the back of it. Stamped on it there someplace it'll say which it is. If it's stamped 2 ohm, that's a Monsoon type/style speaker and you'll need to find/get another 2 ohm to replace it (most of the time you need to get the stock factory type then since there are very few aftermarket ones that are 2 ohm). If it's stamped 4 ohm, you're free to get whatever aftermarket type you want to replace it.

Cool....thank you. One last question......how do you take off the front door speaker enclosure......it must be easier than it looks. It looks like you cant get to the speakers unless you can get that bottom off. I see 1 screw, took it out and nothing. Can you direct me to something that shows how it comes off?

Thanks again.....Chris

You're welcome Chris. As for getting to the speaker itself you've got to take the whole door panel off. If you don't know how to do that, here's a link to the window motor replacement that shows how to get the door panel off - window motor/door panel link. Just pull down the page in that link until you see the pics. Once you have the door panel off you'll see the screws that hold the speaker in the door. Just remove those, pull the speaker out, unhook the wires from the back and you're good to go.

Once you have a new speaker just do a reverse of above and you'll be all set again. smile.gif

Actually, you can use a 4 ohm speaker on a 2 ohm system,it just cuts down on the power output.

Sue,is correct in that the door panel needs to be removed. You might be able to let it hang on the door however and not unhook all the switches.

The door speakers and the side pillar speakers are all 6 1/2" coaxials. At least mine were. They are nice units to be stock.

Tyler's right, you can use a 4 ohm in place of the 2 ohm and like he said there will be some cut down on the power output.

I just suggested that you replace the one that's blown with one of the same ohmage so that the power output of both doors stays the same. I've heard cars where the doors speakers were different ohmage and to me they just didn't sound right (one side always seemed louder then the other no matter how much the person who had the car tried to balance the sound). That is unless of course you want to change the speakers in both doors. If you do that it won't matter what ohm the speakers are cause the power output of them will be the same.

Thanks for all the help. The link shows it all!
