banghead.gif I need some really good SFC's for my 87 Formula LB9 TPI (bored .06 and currently in build-up). I've looked at everything from Hotchkis, Spohn, Alston...you name it, but didn't REALLY like anything I saw as far as value and functionality without sacrifice. So far I'm considering the Spohn, as I really want something that doesn't require mods to the car as it is for installation. But I also want something that ties directly to the front frame rails AND the the rear control arm mounts, to be welded in place. Does anyone know if the Spohn units do this? I can't really tell from the pictures and descriptions . I also saw a posting on here for UMI connectors, which look comparatively nice if there are no mods required. I welcome and appreciate any and all comments, info etc...

alot of guys like the spohn SFCs and i havent heard bad about them. as for me i have alstons and so far they are doing the trick. they mount to the front frame rails and IIRC the rear rail. the only 2 things i can think you might hafta do is cut a notch in hte dr side rear mount as it stradels the fuel pump bracket and the fuel/ brake line bracket will hafta have a longer screw but other than that they pretty much pop right in.

The Spohn SFC's connect the front and rear subframes. Steve Spohn drives a 3rd Gen. His products are as good as they get.

Thanks for the info...but after not getting responses for a couple days, I went ahead and ordered the UMI units. They have a set of installation pics right on their page, and I really liked the way they looked and hooked up. Paste this link to take a look

Thanks for the reply, and Spohn would have been the next choice, but I didn't like the idea of trying to get my mig-welder into the gap between the round tubes and the flat floor and frame panels. I ordered the UMI units that I read about on another posting here, and they have detailed install pics on their sight. With no mods necessary and the way they look, I didn't figure I could go wrong for the $200 price tag. Check em' out at this address.

I have UMI SFC's, they are the best modification I have on my car. Clears the exhaust and tucks away nice. Plus the square stock makes great jacking points for our cars.

Anyone use this set?

I think I have a flexy frame and wanna get it stiffened up. I have about 160K and I am pretty sure my car was wrecked before so it feels a little squirrely under accel.

What is the best way to beef up the underside on a '95?

Thanks for any input!

I've never used that set. Myself I've got Kenny Brown Double Diamond weld in subframe connectors on mine. They're the box style. I like them even if others don't cause of them being the box style. But getting subframe connectors is the best way to stiffen up our cars and "beef" up the underside.

As for having a flexy frame, nah, the 4th gen cars (both LT1 and LS1 style) don't have a true frame on them. They've got a frame in the front and in the back but nothing in the middle connecting the two, that's why alot of people get subframe connectors to tie the two ends of the car together and tighten the whole feel of the car up. Also once you get SFCs you'll notice that the whole car from front to back is stiffer on the turns/curves and that it will handle a little different. That's normal.

But look around, there's quite a few styles of SFCs for our cars. Just find a pair that you like and can afford (but don't go cheap on them since you do get what you pay for) and get the weld in style rather then the bolt in kind since once you've got them welded in they won't move while with the bolt in style the bolts can end up loosen up some and moving around in the holes they're through and causing those holes to oval out and therefore letting the subframes move around a bit. But that's my opinion and what I've seen happen with the bolt in style so take it for what it's worth.
