I like turbo's too, they do make cars haul...but i dunno for some reason i have always though they were like steroids for cars, even though i know it's not cheating...i just like being able to make lots of power N/A...it's always more challenging. Forced Induction is definitely the easiest way to get loads of power, and plus i think i dislike them somewhat because they are all the ricers talk about "well if my car had a TURBO in it, i would eat your bird" lol! It's true though, you dont really see any V8's with turbos, nowadays they are all S/C. And i dont really care for Evo's and Sti's mainly because they are every ricer's dream to own haha, plus all the owners of them seem to be very cocky...i have lots of respect for them because they are quick little buggers.
Thing is N/A power is that it can become unstreetable very quick. I just like power so I really don't care how one goes after it, just get it. As far as not seeing V8 turbos... rubbish! Pick up the new GM High Tech Performance magazine, and behold what ruled the LSX shootout. Turbos are more efficient power adders than belt driven superchargers(until this new 4 lobe job on the LS9, supposedly very close to turbo efficiency hence GM's choice instead of turbo on the new beast) and as long as EFI continues to be more user friendly, tunes can be set on the same car to run street gas at low boost and good stuff at the track with big boost! These set-ups are more flexible than anything else out there and why not go for the free boost from the air that normally just is wasted exhaust.
In the new Hot Rod magazine an experienced turbo man made 550hp with a cheap chinese made turbo blowing through a completely stock 5.3L LS series truck motor. That is crazy easy power, why not take advantage of the LS series airflow to the max? Oh yeah, same motor with a used Z06 cam... can you believe it picked up 100hp!?!?!?! At the wheels, with only a used production cam and a truck motor - 650hp!
Turbos rule!!!
