Hey guys whats going on? Okay so I will get down to the point, I went out racing last night and was talking to a couple of guys one of them had a 2003 Ford Mustang, and the other had a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo VIII, so I was wanting to race them so I asked the guy in the mustang if he wanted to race and he said no because I got 100 shot of nitrous on my car. I told him that I would run him motor to motor cause he said his car was stock then the Evo VIII wanted to race but he said I could use the bottle on my car to race him, he said he was also stock but had a boost controller and that was it. So we went out of town and I lost to both of those cars. I looked up the specs on those mustangs that he was racing and they dyno at 235 horse to the tires? My car I dynoed at 4800 feet and it was at 288 horse to the tires and 401 horse to the tires on the 100 shot. This mustang was walking away from me on the top end and I just got done racing a 2002 mustang the night before with a pro charger and water methanol injection, I lost to him in the quarter but after a 100 I was walking up on him and passed him with like a 20 mph difference, I was spraying to keep up obliviously, but I found it weird for a "stock" mustang and a "stock" evo to keep walking away from me. The evo horse is listed on their official site at 293 motor horse... I don't think turning the boost up would compensate for atleast 100 horse. Anyway can you guys help me out here and give me some input? Both cars had exhausts on them and they both had rough idels hinting to me maybe they are camed and I over heard the guy with the evo talking and telling the other guys that he tunes those cars and has all of the programs for them. I just don't know and I know it is hard for you guys to help on the matter because none of you were out there. But what were your experiences with mustangs of that year and evos of that year? Any information will help thanks guys.

The EVO is a very formidable car. They can make a lot of power very easy. A program and raise the boost 4psi will make crazy hp. The just stock thing is uses a lot in street racing. They take advantage of green drivers using that line. Just watch for this in the future.

Was the mustang a Cobra? If it was, then it was supercharged and rated 450hp, but I have never raced one. I have seen them get a pulley, exhaust, and an intake and make 150hp, but the car will blow up before long.

that is my $.02.

What did you run in the 1/4?

This is where Street Racing Hints #3 comes in. You really need to pay attention to who or what you are racing. Evo's and WRX STI's make less power but are lighter and AWD. And like said above `03-4 Cobra's are wicked fast with a few bolt-ons.

Okay sorry for the slow response guys I run a 14.3 on motor and 13.1 on the nitrous I got a 12.99 out of it once that was my best time but the mustang was definitely not a cobra it was a mustang with a N/A 4.6 in it.

Don't feel bad about the Evo. Those cars are fast and formidable. If you were running LS1 you'd have had trouble keeping up. As for the stang, was it a new one? cobra?

You probably ran into a Cobra. Mine is running 467hp and 502tq with bolt ons and a safe tune ( and they don't blow up if you have a safe tune and know how to drive).
I have run into a few realy fast Evo's. Some running 11's.

An Evo runs the streets around here that has shut down many a bigtime competitor in every situation - track, street, from a dig or a roll. His is built from the oilpan up, but he bought it new and showroom stock it could get my LS1, since then it has been turned into a monster, albeit with well into the 5 digits worth of drivetrain now it should be bad. He also has suffered some major breakage, so when built again he always went bigger, badder, stronger if possible. Many street/strip hotrods 'round here, includings several Evos, his is just the baddest I personally know. There was 1 I saw at a local 1/8th mile strip 1 day last winter that ran "no time" but by eye I say he ran deep in the 6s easy, if not tickling high 5s. That thing left the line pure violent!!! When it went, it looked like it bunny hopped forward, huge traction! Those things are fast, but haven't proven long term reliable especially with abuse, and too bad they look the way they do redlol.gif

As for the 'stang( and for that matter the Evo too), it sounds like you ran into some, uhhhh, sandbaggers mellow.gif

As stated, tends to be a norm among the street racing ranks. Just like the Evo, if not more so, mod motor 'stangs can be built to a huge degree. They may be dragging behind 4th gens. stock-to-stock, but with parts and know how most things can be made faster these days. Speaking of, look out for diesel pickups... they are some smokers, literally smokers, showing up at strips and streets around the land. I've been seeing some stock looking 2500s and F250s running around 8 flats, some a bit quicker, at the local 1/8ths. That's 12s in the 1/4 range. Just watch out, turbos and diesel tuning means big power so those 3 ton beasts can run now too, actually quite easily!

You said the key phrase there.

Around here I call the Mustangs Quarter cars. There are sooooo many here that if you have a pocket full of quarters you can mod it to 500hp easy. It is amazing. Now that the Mexican Immigrants (legal and illegal alike) have started turning them in to ricers. There is one here that has $20,000 into the motor alone and is only running high 9's in the 1/4. It is getting to the point that there are more modded Fords than bow-ties or birds.

As for the Diesels, you can take a truck like my '05 Dodge with the 5.9L Cummins and get the Bullydog triple dog to match a stock Formula in speed. For $5000 I can make a diesel lay down 1000hp and almost 2000 ft/lbs of torque. It does not take much at all and the worst part is they can still get in the 20's for mileage.
