banghead.gif As you can tell by the topic, I am getting furious with Random Tech Catalytic Converters. The year is 2001, I get my first Random Tech Cat at $280, have it welded on. Warranty card? I need no stinkin warranty filled out, it has no moving parts!!! WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BREAK!!! 11 months later, that baby was rattling like the rocks in my skull, and no I didnt hit anything to cause damage. I call random tech who I purchased the unit from directly with my receipt dated 11 months prior, they could care less. No warranty card, no replacement. Buy another one......OK, I get another one for $280 in 2002. What am I hearing now the past 2 days???? YOU GOT IT!!!! Sounded a little bit rattly yesterday and today its getting louder! The covers on the outside of the cat seem secure. I hit it with my sneaker and you hear that great familiar old rattling sound. Good thing about the random tech cats, THEY FALL APART AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT!!!! Shoooooooo, OK, I vented. I call out to my fellow Formula drivers and ask what you guys/gals have had success with on the high flow cat side for performace/longevity, as I am sure I will be purchasing one very soon. I also have my original cat which was in use for about 6 years, was wondering if I should just put that back on. I am really tired of having to go back to my fellow welder to have this part replaced.

Oh, and after the RTCat was put on, I lost ground clearance over stock. That and keeping it "inspection passable" are important too.

THANKS!

I had a CATCO on my 95 for a few years, but my car scrapes every speed bump and driveway in Myrtle Beach. The honeycomb broke after one to many speed bumps and potato wedged in the outlet. That was only because I hit it. Only cost me at the time like $30. There is magnaflow, that seems like a good one, but the only one I have dealt with was on my sister's Jeep.

The magnalflow is 1/2 the cost of the random tech, think I am gonna go with that one. Little bit more welding involved unfortunately, doesnt have the bolt on section that the RTC has. Magna also has a lifetime warranty. NIIIICCCEEE!!!!! Curious to see if the Borla exhaust note will change.
SiberianFirestorm
Yes it will change a little.

Wow i'm surprised to hear that! From what i have been lead to believe before this post was that Random Tech was a reliable company! I have a buddy at work who has them on his 02 stang gt and he says he loves them! But if Magnaflow is 1/2 the price, i would personally buy them cause all i hear is good things about them.

The magnaflow turned out to be $110......Sounds just a little bit meaner/deeper in the 1500 rpm and above range ....the Random Techs were $280 a pop. VERY VERY frustrated with them, blew a lot of money for horrible longevity, perhaps its just for the 1995 Birds that they are poorly constructed. Hopefully Magnaflow will last a bit longer.

I had a Random Tech cat for years before hitting a speed bump and crushing it. I run a Magnaflow and it has been on for the past 2 years without an issue.
