Full Version: Does the badge on my dash mean anything?

I have a performance suspension badge on the dash of my 1988 formula. I was wondering if this meant anything. I understand that a WS6 suspension was an option in 88, but do not know if this is the case here. I know car companies get proud about odd things sometimes and was just curious if I had something cool goin' on with this car. Thanks, Ryan

What it means is that you have the WS6 performance package on your car, which on ALL 3rd gen (1987-1992) Formulas the WS6 package was standard . The WS6 package was only an option on the other models offered.

Thanks for the update. This is my F-body so I will be likely to ask many stupid questions over the next couple of months. I 'll try not to flood the site with tired old questions. But, till then thanks for the answers, Ryan

No problem and you're welcome Ryan. Also don't worry about asking questions. Just remember there are no stupid questions except the ones you don't ask that you don't know the answer too.

Here's one along the same lines:

I have an 85 Trans Am and it has the "Performance Suspension" logo on the dash. It's not a WS6 that I know of. It came with 15 inch wheels and the 305 4 bbl engine. I think the WS6's that year had the 16 inch wheels with 50 series tires. Unless I'm off the mark on that one.

i believe that before 4th gen the WS6 was scrictly suspension package and had nothing to do with ram air or tires...i could be wrong

again all 3rd gens came standard with WS6 suspension

formulas and trans ams yes...not sure about base firebirds
SassySue09
Actually on the 3rd gens the WS6 package was only standard on the Formulas (1987-1992), on the Trans Am and GTAs it was an option. The base Firebirds had their own "performance" packages that you could get *WS1 and WS3, WS1 was also available on the Trans Am*.

And the WS6 package was more then strictly suspension stuff, it included the foloowing P245/50VR16 steel-belted black sidewall tires, 16x8 high-tech turbo or diamond-spoke aluminum wheels, specific springs, gas filled shock absorbers, special front and rear stabilizer bars and quick ratio steering.

actually you are almost correct, WS6 was standard on GTA and FORMULA but an option on T/A. FE1 was the standard option group on base firebird, firebird and T/A.

OK, so which of these got the Performance Suspension badge? Mine isn't a WS6 or anything like that, but has one.

I'm not sure about them being on the 4th gen cars. We were talking about the 3rd gens.

I was talking 3rd Gen too

Sorry, my bad.

If you've got the RPO codes for the 85 see if there's a Y99 code. That's the code for the Rally Tuned Suspension, which is also knows as the Performance Suspension, which would account for the badge you have. cool.gif

Sorry, my bad.

It's cool- just chill and blaze Friday night away like I am. Damn I love my life. smile.gif

Thanks - yea I just chilled Friday night and sat here filling out more job applications to turn in to try and find a job. I've filled out so many of them I think I can fill them out in my sleep now. laugh.gif I never thought it would be so hard to find a job but I guess that's what happens when you've been a stay at home mom for almost 15 years and then have to get a job. No one wants to give you a chance cause they don't take into consideration life experience and they don't think you can do anything but be a mom. sad.gif

That's really crappy. A stay at home Mom would be the perfect employee. Hardworking, able to juggle many tasks at once. Model employee and I'm sure the job, whatever it is, would be a step down in stress levels for a former stay at home Mom. smile.gif
SassySue09
Yea it is really crappy. You'd think that wouldn't you about a stay at home mom being the perfect employee. Where else can you find a person who can do six things at once, keep them all seperate and get them all done in the time from when the kids leave for school and the time they come home. laugh.gif And yea working would definetly lower my stress levels especially after this past 18 months cause Lord knows no one should have to live with the stress I've been under. wacko.gif

BTW - sorry for hijacking your thread.

jedi, let's take this to PMs or something if you want to continue. cool.gif

if it has that badge then its a WS6 car. the T/A could be ither WS6 or standard suspinsion, remember WS6 was an option on T/A. and IIRC in 85 they started with 16" wheels on WS6 cars. so if you have 16' wheels on your car thats a sign of WS6. it consisted of bigger sways, fast ratio steering box, 16' wheels, stiffer springs and 1 or 2 other things im forgetting.

something to think about is that panel can be installed from another car, so unless your sure your car hasnt been pieced together you can be decieved. now to go deeper, if you own a 82-83 car and you dont have the winder sticker you can be in for a trip as these cars have a plate on the front header support behind the hood latch. my 83 has very few codes and would need to be deciferd thru PHS. but it has all of the advrtised markings of a WS6 car. fast ratio steering box, beefy sways, 4 wheel disk, 15' 265/50/16 tires and im sure theres something im forgetting but without sending it to PHS im 99% sure my 83 is a WS6 car also.
