Has anyone tried replacing the light bulbs in the steering wheel controls? I pulled the control out over the weekend but it appears to be a sealed unit. I didn't want to try tearing it apart and possibly breaking it (the unit works fine, just doesn't light up) until I'm sure the bulbs are actually replaceable.

I haven't done it myself but I know several people who have and they've said it's a bit of a pain but not too bad. If you do a search on here there are is a post or two about changing them.

Edited: Links removed due to links not working.

Hmmm all the links to the pictures on that page seem to be dead huh2.gif

Ok that's weird, they were working for me when I done my post. But like I said if you use the search feature and look around you'll find a post or two on here in the Car Audio forum on how to change the LEDs out.

The link is down on my end too.

Sorry about those links not working guys. I've removed them to avoid any more confusion with them.

Click to view attachmentFYI, are the style lights in my '96 supposed to light up?
BrdWAtti2d
Yep, same controls as my 97. For the life of me I can't figure out how to open that thing up without breaking it.

Cool, its weird that they don't look like they would light up. But, if they do I will fix cool.gif . Thx for the info

This may be a dumb question but if the technicians can change them how would they go about doing this? Are there any sort of screws on the opposite side of the steering wheel, possibly hidden by plastic caps?

I apologize, I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence but this would make a great tech article if someone could figure it out 'safely'. Take lots of pictures! cool.gif

I'm pretty sure the dealership would just replace the whole control.

The controls just pop right out, but once out they seem to be a sealed unit.

I think someone on LS1tech.com did a how-to in the appearance section on changing the lights in the steering wheel controls to blue LED's so maybe there would be some useful info in there if you can find it. I'd look for it now but I'm at work.

First link works for me too so it must be something at work that's causing it not to work for you Pyro. But that write up is more or less what the link that I had up that didn't work showed you what to do.

That's a good write up but it looks like alot of work to me. I think I'll leave my controls alone for now even though I've got a bulb out in one of them since I know just by feel what button does what unless I get bored one long winters day and I've got nothing else to do. lol
Pyro97
it probably is something here that won't let it work, says I'm not authorized to view the page. eh whatever, I'll try it at home tonight
