I've got the sail panel speaker on the drivers side of the car blown out and creates nasty static noise when bass hits. My g/f got me some Alpine's for my birthday a while back and they didn't fit. Apparently the monsoon speakers in the sail panels have 4 connectors instead of the common 2 connectors. I am about to finally replace the speaker due to the fact that i want to be able to listen to my music without the crackle and static...so my question is this: Does anybody know of any other type of aftermarket speaker that will fit into the sail panel of a monsoon system? If nobody does, i am just going to get a new monsoon speaker for 60 bucks...but i just want to see what all my options are before i do that.

nevermind guys i ordered a OEM replacement from conquestauto.com. Only 54 bucks as opposed to the Pontiac dealer's 100 dollar speaker LOL

Cool. Congrats on finding them for that price. I've got to remember that place incase I ever need to replace any of mine since what the dealer charages for them is ridiculous.

Going back to the other question on putting aftermarket speakers in- does anyone have any tips or suggestions on doing this? Both sail panel speakers and the front door speaker are all out on my car and replacing them with originals will be pretty costly, and then I have to worry about the other old ones going out on me later on so its probably better to just replace them all.

Anyone have any experience with this>?

Seems that the Conquestauto.com done caught on to how valueable those speakers are.. up to $104 + shipping n' handling... dry.gif hell for that price may as well go to the dealer.

Im fixin to end up redoing my whole system over the next few months. Going with either a Kenwood 7" dvd full screen w/ tilt OR the indash flip out dvd model. Kenwood and Dual seems to be the only 2 head units that are black with red buttons. Also going with new speakers to get rid of the 4 wire problem once and for all. not sure on what kinda speakers I'll go with nothin to fancy but enough to do what Im wantin to do. Figure the guys at the shop will be able to match up the watts needed if they know what they are doin.

While I have not messed with a Monsoon system I'll bet the 4 wire plug is for the woofer and the tweeter. I would see if any two wires would power an aftermarket speaker ok. I bet it will. If the size is like a non-Monsoon system the speakers are 6 1/2". Pioneers fit perfect, screw holes and all.

I tried some after market speakers in the sail panels a few years ago. it was a no go. The replacement speakers that i tried were 6 1/2" Crunchfield if I remember correctly. The 2 wire speakers dont pick up enough watts for the 4 wire speaker or something else that Im not catching onto. The sound was horrible and you could barely hear anything coming outta of the speaker. Bottom like scenario, you gotta replace the whole head unit to use 2 wire speakers.

Seems like he did most of the work for us.

You're having problems with the aftermarket speakers cause they're single voice coil speakers and the ones in the sails with the Monsoon system are dual voice coil speakers. That's why they've got 4 wires instead of 2.

If you need to change then and don't want to spend the money that the dealers want for them, look for someone parting out a 4th gen (Firebird or Camaro) and grab the speakers from their car, that's what I've done before. As long as it's a 4th gen with a Monsoon it won't matter the year or if it's a Bird or Bowtie, they'll work. smile.gif
