Full Version: Getting radio codes?

Do I just call Pontiac or something? It's not listed in the owner's manual.

Go to the stealership service department, they can look it up from the VIN as long as it's the original head unit. They shouldn't charge you anything, if they say they are going to, find another dealer.

Thanks dude.

Which radio codes are you talking about? The code to unlock the headunit or the error codes?

Looking for the ones that unlock the radio. I know that on my GTP you had to enter a code should you need to disconnect the battery to work on the car.

Yea that's what I thought, refer to my previous post. Here's how to enter the codes you get from the stealership.

Press and release the "HR" (hour) button until it flashes, and enter in the first two digits of your 4-digit code.
Then press the MIN (minute) button and enter the last two digits.
(For instance, if my code was the number "1848", I'd press the HR button 18 times and the MIN button 48 times).
When you're done, hit AM/FM. The radio is now unlocked.

To turn off Theftlock so you don't have to repeat this process the next power loss,
just repeat the last step -- pressing HR and MIN to re-enter the code.
When it's done and you hit AM/FM, a blank set of three hyphens ("---") will appear on the screen.
You've disabled Theftlock.

I was going to ask, before you go to the dealer, does your radio even have the Theftloc feature on it since not all of them do. If it does it'll say Theftloc on the faceplate with a LED light near the words. If the Theftloc feature has been enabled when the ignition is off the red LED light will flash to let you know that the Theftloc feature is turned on and if the red LED isn't flashing the Theftloc feature hasn't been turned on.

Also you can try doing what it says in this link (Theftloc bypass) before going to the dealer: http://mods.firebirdv6.com/stereo.html#FBEAQ_7 Last time I checked the info in it was still good.

Thanks Sassysue. Mine has the theftlock logo, but the LED does not light up with the ignition off. Does this mean it's OK to disconnect the battery without getting a code from the dealer first?

I also want to say thanks for all the help- the members of this board have been very kind in helping me get the little niggling things fixed on my Formula. I'd be happy to rock a "theformulasource.com" sticker on my car if they're available.

Update: went and programmed the new remote I bought and had the radio fuse out. No problems at all- it even remembered my presets!
SassySue09
Sorry I'm a little late, been trying to get caught up with stuff around my place. But yea, as long as the LED isn't flashing when the ignition is off it's fine to disconnect the battery cause the Theftloc hasn't been engaged and you don't need to get the code from the dealer.

Yup, if you just pull the fuse or even disconnect the battery for a short time the persets in the memory of the radio will be remembered. Heck I've even seen a couple of factory radios that have been out of cars for months and when they were reinstalled the presets were still in there. blink.gif
