I finally got my Sam Strano lowering and cornering springs on the Camaro today.
socket
So sweet - takes curves like you wouldnt believe and sits even. I rolled the fenders last week and the back tires dont hit any more.
I need to get some for Formie too.
Job was easier than I thought:
Rear: unbolt bottom shock then jack up the body allowing the rearend to lower. Pull out the old springs - in with the new.
Fronts: Tools, Strut spring compressor clamps, impact wrench, normal hand tools, ball joint fork.
Raise car, place on jacks behind front wheels ( forward end of subframe connector)
Pull wheels, Remove nuts and bolts from the sturt tower (under hood on fender) the driverside will need a large torx socket and brake master loosened.
Unbolt sway bar end links. Shock lower bolts.
Remove cotter pin from upper ball joint and loosen castle nut several turns.
Pry up on upper control arm against steering knuckle then tap upward on the upper ball joint bolt with a hammer. It wasnt too hard to get it to break loose.
Support with a small jack the steering knuckle and remove castle nut then lower. This wil allow you to pull the shock down to the side and remove the strut assembly.
Put the strut spring clamps on the springs and tighten them up to take pressure off the top shock nut. A little WD40 on the nut. I used the impact to remove the nut. If you didnt put enoough tighten up on the spring clamps the spring will eject the shock mount violently.
Since my new springs were shorter I did not need to use the spring compressors on them. You need to besure to orient the spring cups and spring ends to how they should set in the car.
Reverse the order to reinstall everything. Dont forget to use a new cotter pin on the upper ball joint castle nut. Last thing to install is the sway bar struts.
