Well i am not sure or not, but to me it seems like my midpipe is hanging a little bit lower than it should be. I do not remember how it looked before i did the catback swap, but i have been told by a few people that it looks low. If it is, it could be the source of my vibration problem....

Yea maybe a little. Plus you're gonna drag that over speed bumps.

yeah its been low like that for as long as i can remember, but i haven't scraped any speedbumps yet (i drive at about 0.000000001 mph over them) lol. I just wanted to make sure it's supposed to be tucked up better before i go under and try to re-adjust it

Yea it is hanging a bit low. To me from the pic it looks like it isn't on completely level and straight so readjusting it should help. As for the vibration, yea if it isn't on straight and tight it can hit on different areas under the car and cause not only a vibration but some weird noises sometimes too.

Me too, I hate weird noises on my cars cause being the way I am I just have to hunt them down and see if I can stop them.
Freshbake - I can't remember so sorry for asking, but do you still have cats on your car?

haha, its no problem. Yes i do still have the cats on the car...i would like to take them off but i would need to make it so i can put the cats back on when i go to get the car inspected.
Well this is good, now that i know it is hanging low i am pretty sure thats where the vibrations are coming from. I looked under the car after putting it in gear and pulled the ebrake, i noticed the midpipe vibrates a lot. I'll have to check that out.

Is that aftermarket or stock? Seems like all the aftermarket Y-pipes hang low like thaton 4th gen F-bodies. It's because the stock pipe is crushed flatter, the aftermarket ones are round.

Thanks. Old age must be getting to me cause I keep forgetting stuff.
Another question, did you have to loosen up the hangers on the y-pipe when you put on your catback? If so, check the hanger on the drivers side under the car where you feet would be (it's the one by the heat shield there). I know that after I had my catback put on my 99 and we had loosened that hanger that the nut on it kept wanting to back off causing the y-pipe and therefore the rest of the system until the next hanger to hang lower then normal. I fixed that problem by tack welding the nut on.

Gents,
Quick notes from my experience. I replaced my y-pipe when I replaced the cat last year. After the shop installed the unit, it took two return visits to get rid fo the new "mystery" vibration/noise. The cross over pipe was touching the cross member. When my cross member was welded together, they left a small piece of flash from the weld sticking out. The cross over was touching that. The removed the cross over, hit it with a grinder for about a second and the problem was gone.
If the cross over is hanging low like mine was, take it to a good muffler shop and have them cut it, tuck it, and re-weld it. They tucked mine so tight, now the lowest part of my exhaust is the cat. My car has Eibachs on it, so it's about 1.5 - 2" lower as a result.
FYI - Clearance, good!

Ive been having an annoying vibration under the center counsil on my 95 formula. Look under your car and see if there is a plate thats supposed to be supporting your pipeing. I have one on mine which was the cause of my vibration noise so i just grinded it down to where it wasnt hitting it anymore.
