This is my first time on this forum I have been a fan of trans ams since i was young. I just bought my first. It is a 97 trans am formula with a 6 speed transmission, the guy that i had bought the car from put cat back flomasters and thats it. Its in great condision. I took it to richmond dragway a bought 3 weeks ago i ran a 14.1 in the 1/4 mile i shifted into 4th gear at a bought 5500 like a dumb*** and yes yall should make fun of me for it.

Well i was wondering for someone on a buget what is the best bolt ons that would maybe get me to mid 13's by next session.

If yall could please help that would be great.

Trans Am and Formula are two different cars. But congrats on the purchase of your Transamula.

From the sounds of it, since it says Trans Am on the doors, it's a Trans Am. If it was a Formula it would have decals on both the drivers side headlight cover and the rear bumper that say Formula unless someone removed them. Another way you can tell is to look at the RPO code sticker on the drivers side door and look for the code W66. If that code isn't there it isn't a Formula but a Trans Am.

With the mods, what kind of budget are you talking about? Knowing how much you have to spend would make it easier for us to suggest stuff for you. Also how many miles are on the car? That can make a difference too on what we might suggest.

14.1 isn't bad. That's about average for a stock car.

As for the mods, without knowing your budget, I'd suggest a CAI also (besides the two you've mentioned Moroso is also a good brand), a better higher flowing catback, maybe mid-length or long tube headers and a different y-pipe (which one depends on if you've got to pass emissions or not) and maybe different gears (which ones depend on if it's a daily driver, how far you drive each day and where you drive mainly ie mainly city or mainly highway). Now if you want to get into the engine some, you could upgrade the rocker arms to 1.6 roller rockers and maybe even do a cam. Also I'd suggest getting a good tune done to your car even if you don't do many mods to it cause even on a stock car a good tune can make alot of difference.

Just remember also that if you do go fast type mods you'll probably end up having to do suspension mods eventually also so that the power you make can get to the ground good otherwise all you'll end up doing is sitting there spinning your tires and getting no where fast. lol That's just something to keep in mind for the future.

I'd go for some used parts. Try out Ebay, but watch for crappy sellers. I was lucky to have headers, cam, heads and roller rockers, plus a Hypertech Power Programmer.
