Hey guys and gals,
I was just browsing on e-bay, checking out stuff and came accross this intake.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-97-Z28-T...sspagenameZWDVW

What do you guys think about it? Looks like it replaces the elbow and everything. Just thought I would get your comments.

Thanks,
Sean

It doesn't look bad but I've never been a fan of the metal CAIs. I've known people who've used them and one time at the track I was helping one of them work on his car and I accidently leaned on his CAI. Let's just say I said a few choice words and had a slight burn on my arm for about a week. To me anything that's supposed to help pull "cool" air into my engine yet gets hot enough to give me a burn isn't a good thing. Plus with that one having the split in the middle I'd be worried about it sealing good there especially in the future and causing a possilbe air leak.

The one I used to have on my 97 was the Moroso CAI set up. It fit great, was one piece that was made out of plastic/composite material and I never had any problems with it. Plus I know there are several other manufacturers that make CAIs for our cars. I'd check all of them out, compare how they're all made, compare prices and then get the one that works best for me.

Oh and with the gains you'll see from one, a bit of advice, never actually believe what most places put as the gains for anything for on your car since most manufacturers inflate that a bit but you will see a gain from a good CAI.

Thanks for the info. I told my mother that I wanted a CAI intake for xmas, well, she bought this one.... After I saw this one I asked her if this is one she got and she said yes, I guess I should have asked the group first... I thought any old one would do. I appreciate her gesture anyways:) Well with that said, wonder if I should put some sort of plastic shield over the metal, do you guys think that might help with the heat? I have to use it, it would break her heart if I told her that it wasn't "right." Gotta be good to momma.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. Might get lucky and the "metal" might be just coated plastic, lol.

Nope, not going to be lucky. It is a solid metal IMPORT intake kit. It will work to allow cooler air to enter the filter and less restrictive, but.... not a lot due to the narrow pipe to the throttle body. Get some header wrap and that will help cool it a little. You will need to tap it for your Air temp sensor near the TB. I do not see a bracket to hold it in the fender well, so be careful there.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked at autozone the other day by chance and saw some of that thermal wrap, it was like $50.00. Is that the norm? Or do you guys know of a cheaper sources. Honestly I would hate to spend more than the unit cost just for the wrap;) Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. I will lookout for all mentioned, I am so glad this group is here. I will let you all know what happens, I get the intake later today, its 1:13 am right now for me. I am sure that this system has to be better than stock, I mean i know its not K&N or morso (spelling) but it should work okay I think, or at least hope. I cleaned the throttle body tonight in anticpation, seemed to help throttle response. smile.gif Thanks again guys.

Hey guys,
Well I decided to use the OEM elbow because it was much bigger as far as taking in air. I used a bunch of clear hightemp silicon and I cut a piece of plywoof to meet up inside where the silencer would go. I let this dry and I also installed the silencer back on the elbow just in case I have a leak or something. I started the car and it seems to run better than before. I can't really test the seat of pants acceleration because my tranny is leaking so badly (taxes are coming soon, so I'll be able to get this fixed!)

Question: I did install an airfoil that I bought for like 50 dollars or so on sale, it is nice an smooth and was a great fit. With making the elbow change to my CAI intake and adding the airfoil how much horse and torque do you guys think I have added to my car? I know its hard to to just spout off a guess like that but I would appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,
Sean

I would estimate with a stock exhaust a possible 6hp. If you have a better flowing exhaust it is possible to see up to 15 or 20hp, but that is even high.

Thanks. I have the SLP loudmouth exhaust with the slp muffler, and all new 3.5 inch pipe (I think) runnning all the way up. So I might have 15-20. Hmm, interesting.

Thanks again.

Yea with that exhaust setup you might see around 15-20hp. Without it you'd probably see around 5hp max from it.

I just pulled a moroso intake off of my 94(was damaged in a wreck due to previous owner). I really like how it is laid out. I just wish it came with the elbow to the throttle body too.
