I am wondering if any formula has beated the gt mustangs bone stock. I think its a fairly even match but formulas do have better torque. Any stories?

One of the girls at work husband had one I could have beat with my Acura it ran so bad, and I don't mean bad as in good. He had nothing but trouble with it with endless trips to the dealership to try and iron out the issues. The dealer ended up taking it back.

I think a stock 07 GT will outrun a stock LT1 F-body. An LS1 is a different story. Then the F-body has a stronger motor but only a little bit. The GT is no slouch but lacks cubes. LS1's are killers on top-end.

It may or may not have been an '07, but it was definitely a new "old" style 'stang with a 3 valve N/A 4.6L motor.

"So today I'm on the way home going down a local 4 lane highway. Cruising at speed limit, a new(05+) black Mustang GT just has to pass me and get in the lane in front of me coming up to a red light. There was a car in the left lane in the way, so I just stayed behind the 'stang in the right lane. When light goes green, we both roll away and clear the other car, then he goes to the left lane and is on the gas hard. I was too , coming up hard in the right lane. Now as we left the light, he pulled out a couple cars on me, but it took very little time to catch and pass him under full throttle acceleration. By 110mph, I had put a couple cars on him before I pulled in front of him(my lane was ending) and got on the brakes for the next light. At that point, I had to turn right to get home, and as I was turning he flicked his lights at me. I gave him a thumbs up out the window and smiled the rest of the way home. Out of the hole traction against a Celica on hard cruddy tires, I lose, but from a decent roll against much more competition from another V8, I slaughter it! From the jump he had on me, I thought it might not happen, but once I was pulling and passing him, I thought geez those cars are still pretty weak, I don't care how many cams and valves they have. My 'bird still gotz the goods with 137,000+ miles on it, just wish I would've had the camera on it to let you guys/gals see. From now on it rides with me"

Just wanted to comment on the torque thing too. The peak numbers may be similar for torque and power, but the powerband as seen on a dyno graph and felt by the SOTP is wholly and totally better with an LS1 car. The LT1s really aren't that far off either, and given the weight advantage all 4th gens carry over the new Mustangs(300-400 pounds I believe) most anybody with a good running stockish F-body should stand a decent chance of beating them. Go find one for yourself at a stoplight near you, you shouldn't have any trouble, those big hideous things are everywhere! ninja.gif

LOL, I cant wait, one of my friends got a brand new gt when it came out and for some reason we never ended up going against each other, but all good things happen in time...(btw is it me or mustang lovers really dont like the fact that firebirds can beat them,i heard so many firebird bashes on youtube....amatuers)...oh and also I heard that the new civic si can beat the v6 mustangs easily due to power to weight ratio... laugh.gif

I have yet to meet a N/A Factory Mustang that I haven't been able to walk away from.

Haven't yet found the Stang that could top me. That includes Roush, SVT and whateverelse they try and throw at me! smile.gif The LS1 is a monster in comparisson that those little 4.6Ls. Even the 351 Roush isn't a big challenge.
SiberianFirestorm
Most stangs are either $30k into the motor or spraying 150hp+ that beat me. I have yet to see the new 07, although there are a lot of new body stangs at the local used car lots.

The local Ford dealership here is selling a dealer add-on package called the GT-R. Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?! No performance, just cosmetics. It is funny on it's own just seeing that these no-brains have pulled a nameplate from a modern classic, even if it does come from Japan. It is even funnier if you've seen and remember the DVD video Mischief 3000 where in the special features section they showed this clip called "Domestic Rice". It was a 94-97 V6 Mustang at some random car show/drag day at this strip somewhere. The guys are filming and walk up on this idiot standing beside his 'stang that was wearing actual Nissan badging and all kinds of other CRAP(no better word). This guy says his Mustang has a turbo Rotary V8 with pushrods and nitrous and everything, yet he doesn't pop the hood but claims it's running "10's" out on the track.

So the real observant of ya'll will ask, how did I know it is a V6? I don't know, but this piece of crap was wearing the 3 spoke 15" fleet car alloys and had a tiny little 1.5" exhaust pipe hanging down from 1 side of the car... just like it left the factory. Just ridiculous!
4thtimes charm
track day with the car club i ran 8.6 no traction to his 8.4 my car has over 120000 miles and original clutch. i think new clutch and they are mine. that;s bone stock versus bone stock

I've beaten a couple with my TA. It's an auto so both times they get a couple of cars on me at take off. But I manage to reel them in pretty fast. KRockls1. What do you have done to yor car to beat SVT Cobra's? ( not a put down by any means just a question) I've only lost to heads, cam LS1's on my Cobra.

I beleive He was talking about Pre Terminator Cobra's
I myself have run quite a few of the early ``93-`01 Cobra's and never really had any problems stock to stock. But I won't mess with a Terminator cause I know my place, although I have seen bolt on LS1's run hard against a stock `03+ Cobra. (Rookie Street Racers with Big HP cars don't always fair very well)
No disrespect intended a fast car is a fast car and we can all appreciate that.
fmla505
No disrespect in either direction here. I own both an F-body and a Terminator unsure.gif I got the Cobra cause they are the best bang for your buck. But as far as looks my TA beats it easily.

All I have on my car is CAI and Corsa Performance Exhaust. Otherwise it's stock, however it is an 02 which means it has the LS6 intake manifold, which makes quite a difference over the 1998-2000 LS1. My wins against cobras haven't been by a large margin, and I don't recall the road/air conditions. It might also have had something to do with the fact that my Goodyear Eagle F1-GS-D3 rubber does not slip much.
fmla505
Yours must be one of those factory freaks. Sound good. All I have on my TA is Magnaflow quad tip cat back, and the 5 or so free mods (p&p MAF and Throttle body, throttle body bypass, free ram air, cut off EGR throttle body restriction). Now with my taxes I am getting a set of long tubes and a Y-pipe. and a Volant CAI. So much for keeping this one stock.
KRockLS1
Cool. It's not that I am a stock freak... I just don't any good bang-for-the-buck mods. I do plan to put some new shocks on and maybe an I-pipe, but we'll see.

I have only raced one before and it wasn't even a race. I just totally destroyed him from a light to about 80-90 or so. The guy was pretty cool tho, he said he knew he didn't stand a chance but it was new and he wanted to run it lol. It was a good race, but they are definitely SLOW. It seems to me like a stock LT1 should be able to beat one.
mxskater56
I haven't raced one yet but my friends got a 98 z28 camaro and he beat one. All his car has is a hooker cat back. The day after he raced the mustang I raced him and beat him. Not by much but I still beat him. I got a 95 formula with just a cam, cai, and a gutted cat (this was before I put my headers in)

My convertible 97 trans am LT-1 def doesnt have the jump since it is also automatic, but bone stock stangs dont seem to have that extra umph...my friend got an 05 GT and i christened him with a shower of smoke and the sound of my cutout resonating off his doors as i passed. But I dont give all the credit to the car, he is like most mustang owners.....got a V8 but doesnt know what to do with it.
KRockLS1
I've never lost to any stang. And I have run right with the supercharged ones too.
Freshbake
The ones I have raced will no longer race me anymore hahaha!
MasterTomos
Ive beat a 96 cobra 4.6 DOHC motor...ive beat about 1000 older body style GT's, Ive run with a couple of th new body style GT's, but never at the track, ive never lost a street race to a stang and my lt1 is nearly stock...if they trash talk yur car just bring up it is 15 years old, gets better gas mileage, has t tops, ect. and you probably paid about a 5th of what he/she did for there car haha...
amptuttle
I have!!! biggrin.gif Two of them too.
1slow4v
I have beat several S197's. They're more of an even race than you guys are giving credit for. Stock for stock it should be a driver's race, with the LSx engine having the edge on the big end. Now an LTnone, unless moderately modded has no chance.

I have taken a stock Mach with dr's, and a cat back and whomped on a few WS6's.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not putting down a GM engine, I love GM cars. I have been trying to get rid of my Mach to complete my current buildup. I just have seen both sides of the fence as I have had a couple LSx powered F-bodies, and 2 LTx powered cars. The Mach was an experiment if you will.
