Full Version: 94 Formula - Replacing the Stereo

My 94 Formula has the stereo/cassette with 7 band EQ. I suppose it's the '10 speaker' system, though I always thought it was just 6 happy.gif
It does not say Monsoon on the front, as does the one in my 02 TA.

Recently the clock/station display stopped working. I have been searching for a replacement. I want to stay OE, as I have not altered this car at all, except for wear & tear parts. I have found similar models with CD instead of cassette and aux. input (which I'd like to use for an iPod), but they are from later models.

Will the later model stereos work? Is there some kind of adapter to go from a Monsoon stereo to standard speakers?

Thanks in advance

A later model, like the one in your 02 will work in your 94. The connectors on the back of the radio are all the same from 93-02. And you don't need an adapter for a Monsoon unit with a standard non-Monsoon system as far as I know since I've seen other people use Monsoon headunits as replacements for non-Monsoon systems. The Monsoon units hooked up just fine and really didn't sound any different then their non-Monsoon units did.

I read that the only difference between the standard and Monsoon headunits is the Monsoon decal. Supposedly, they are the same radios.

I would've said just go aftermarket since they'll sound better, but I do respect trying to stay OE with these cars.
