Try having it scanned somewhere else. If the SES light goes on, the code is stored and can be retrieved for quite a while afterward, even if the SES light goes off. Perhaps the dealer confused your car with the 93, on which you can flash the codes on the SES light by shorting the pins in the ALDL connector. That won't work on 94 and up cars.

I hate crap like that- you can pull the ecu ign and ecu batt. fuses for five minutes to clear the light. Not sure if the code stays or not, but the light goes off, which is nice.

All you need to do to clear the codes and the SES light is pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds. If the problem is not fixed, the code and the light will come back, next time the engine is operated under the conditions where the diagnostic can be run.

Does that affect the "readiness meter" or whatever it's called? I had a problem with a SES light that prevented me from getting my inspection until later in the week. That was before googling how to clear the light- wasn't sure about the rest though.

Yes it does affect the "readiness" if you clear the light. If the computer was reset right before inspection (regardless of having an SES light or not), your car will fail emissions due to the OBDII computer not being ready (96+ cars).
I found this out the hard way.

Cool on gettting a scanner, figuring out what was causing the light and getting it fixed.

That scanner will pay for itself quickly, if it hasn't already.

I just purchased a 93 formula. The SES light is on and the car seems to be running rich. When I let off the throttle the exhaust blows smoke. Is this the same as your situation. Code 26 when pulled was listed as the "quad drive module 1 fault". Any ideas?

The code 26 is for the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve circuit and applies to the following:
- AIR pump relay circuit
- EGR solenoid
- EVAP solenoid
Hope that helps you out Steve.
