First issue, I cant spell....see topic.... Squeak...squeak...squeak...squeak...driving me nuts. DOES NOT HAPPEN when applying brakes, but with foot **off of the brake** and going basically in a straight line....at any speed. I checked through the posts but didnt see this issue. These pads are my first set of ceramic brake pads installed ever, hawk performance all around, rotors were machined. Had them on since December. Positives - very minimal brake dust on rims...I like!!! OEM pads clang and bang always for first several months when hitting brakes when replaced, Hawk fit like a glove. No noise....ahhhhh...... MFG claims no squeaking. Jeez, perhaps they have severe ear problems....multiple squeaks all around car. When APPLYING brakes the squeaking goes away... REEALLY irritating. I have been out of work so I havent put too much mileage on them (installed december 07 till now, march 08, daily driver), I can only assume there is some kind of brake in period?

Check the slide for the caliper. I know mine does the same thing with Duralast gold. Found out that one of the slides that the caliper sits in on the "caliper cradle" is starting to rust up from lack of lube and it doesnt let the caliper slide as its supposed to, thus letting the brakes rub against the rotor. Check that out and see if it fixes your problem.

Did you put high temp brake grease on the cradles and all moving parts when you replaced them? I always take a small pieces of 400+ grit sandpaper and clean the moving parts before I reinstall them.

I heard from several mechanics that when new brakes are installed you should break them in slowly without any hard stops or you will run them down unevenly, but I'm still a little bit iffy about that one.

Thanks for responding guys. Had my buddy install the brakes at his garage, gonna stop back with the assembled knowledge. I dont think I actually hit the brakes hard yet, driving under that sexy toyota corolla in October 2007 slowed down my driving a bit. Not even blowing off the ricers lately either, I just let them fart on by.....supp wit dat....Just checked the pads, all looks greased up. Will double check with all your infos.

ya. Hawk recommends a moderately rigerous break in procedure... check their website out and try and follow the procedures as closely as possible.

I will check that out shortly. Thank you. Guess I have some spare time now......the Bird was running rough at idle since sunday....low coolant came on sunday (added to overflow) then again today, went to my garage, pulled it in the shop, it started doin some smokin out the tail pipe at that point. Great timing. Sounded pretty cool though..... SO, gotta shell out the big bucks for a nice new head gasket....Was happy to see radiator was filled to the top. Still, no complaints, been my daily driver since new in 1995, 125,400 miles. Perhaps one day New Jersey will grace me with yet another contractor job.......

Break in is key. If you're installing racing pads on a street only driven vehicle, you're short changing yourself.

I just double checked my purchase, they say for street performance. They had different pads for racing (in blue).

ATTN: New Jersey Residents, stay away from this automotive shop:

9 T H U M B S DOWN FOR a Sayreville NJ automotive repair shop, PERFORMANCE MACHINE, #28 Washington Road (next to WAWA), at the corner of Washington and the Sayreville/South River Bridge. Short version. My normal garage didnt want to do the head gasket, Mr "Performance" shop was going to do, even gave pricing. My garage gave they guy a few days, then called him every day asking about when to drop off the car. For N I N E D A Y S PEOPLE, this (expletive deleted) from Sayreville NJ would not return any phone calls. I went there and sat in his lobby today till he returned....spoke to his tech, said they werent busy, thought the owner declined to do service (WOULD BE NICE YOU (expletive deleted) TO CALL AND LET ME KNOW), tech dood was sweeping up.....owner comes back 45 minutes later, said his tech hurt his hand and it would be a few weeks (REALLY NOW, YOU LIEING (expletive deleted)), and I probably dont want to wait. NINE DAYS people.....all he had to do is say no.......found another shop recommended, guy in a neighboring town, "NO PROBLEM, bring it in tomorrow" he says. Of course all this down time with this being my only car adds to the anger..... UUUUUGGGHHHHHH mad.gif If there is a place to post garages NOT to go to on this website, kindly let me know.

I hate places like that who mess around with customers. Sometimes it makes me wonder how they ever stay in business doing stuff like that.

And we do have a forum for posting up both good things about businesses and where you can warn others about places such as you encountered. It's the Buyers and Sellers Conduct Forum. Here's a link to it: http://www.theformulasource.com/forums/ind...hp?showforum=21 And don't worry, you won't be the first to let us know about a place to avoid. cool.gif

Drove by today, wrote down the shop name, PERFORMANCE MACHINE 28 Washington Road, Sayreville NJ (fixed my original post). Guys a bum. Hopefully I can turn away some business for him being a bum. Yea S.S., I just dont get it. Why not just tell me he didnt want to do it? Well, dropped off my baby today at another shop. Hopefully all will work out. This guy tells me he services an individuals work truck with an LT1, currently has 360,000 miles and it runs stong. Good to hear.
