Full Version: Third Gen. Style window/ power lock controls?

I was thinking it might be cool to take the power window and door lock switches and relocate them to the ashtray door (I don't use the ashtray anyway) so the controls would be on the console like in my 85 T/A.

Then I could fill and smooth the panel on the door to make it appear factory. Wiring wouldn't be much of a big deal.

Thoughts?

It might work but what I'd be worried about is fishing the wires over to the center console especially on the drivers side with all the wiring that's under the dash on that side. But otherwise it might be pretty cool.

As for filling in and smoothing the panel on the door, you don't need to do that, GM actually has panels where the button are that are "blank" for the cars with manual windows.

Ooh, good to know! I was actually thinking about routing the wires under the carpet. Might not be a great idea though to do it that way.

I wouldn't run them under the carpet. First of all the wires start right under the dash in the drivers side area anyway so it would seem like a waste of time to do re-route them under the carpet, plus second I'd be worried about the carpet possible moving over top of them and chaffing them and making a short and possible causing a fire if you ran them under the carept. Just a couple of things to think about.

And you're welcome about the info about the blank panels for the doors.
