my car glistens in the sunlight with swirl marks and surface scratches...what is the best way to get rid of them without having a body shop buff the whole thing?

Or if you want something quicker and cheap try Meguir's ScratchX

These are using the Porter Cable polisher and Menzerna

If they're just in the wax and not actually in the clear coat/color coat, the easiest way to get rid of them is to get rid of the old wax/polish that's on your car. The easiest way to do that is use Dawn dishwashing liquid and water. For some reason Dawn removes car wax/polish. After you wash it with that, wash it again with regular car wash liquid and then rinse it really well to get rid of any sign of both of those. Then you can give it a good wax/polish/glaze with whatever you want to use to bring out the shine again.

Yeah, Dawn works well because it removes grease (wax). Definitely clay the car, then check it out in the sun for swirls. But be careful with ScratchX- a little goes a long way. On one of my Subarus, it made a mess of part of a quarter panel (paint is notoriously thin on Subies though).

Another hint, to help hide swirl marks, always wash and wax your car in the direction that the air flows over the car (ie hood from nose to back, side vertically, etc.) For some reason when you do that any surface scratches or marks made when you wash and wax it are "hidden" since the sun won't reflect off of them as badly.

I know you're all thinking how can that be but believe me it does work.

As someone who did detailing for close to 13 years, this lady speaks the truth smile.gif
