Full Version: Need aftermarket ECU programming

I have my '93 engine rebuilt and running. The aftermarket chip doesn't manage the engine very well. I am going to talk to them about getting some updates, but I am not sure if waiting a week for a chip, seeing how it runs, sending it back, waiting a week, trying again, etc if it is the best method.

Can anyone direct me to a tuner in the Houston area. I know about MTI, but not sure if they think tuning an LT1 is a waste of time.

Here's the current engine config.

Speartech

Sorry Tyler, I forgot to check older posts

Where is Speartech? Why do you recommend them? I only have about 400 miles on the rebuild right now.

Thanks,
E.

It's my understanding that the guy that runs Speartech used to be a GM employee and worked with the ECM/PCM that goes into GM cars. I have only heard good things about them but have not dealt with them myself. My boss at work has a 34 Ford with an LT1 and Speartech did the programming for him.

Just for everyone's information.

I visited and met with Jay at Advanced Racing Dynamics (ARD) about my car and getting a new program. He was happy to accomodate me for running my car on the dyno, but has not been able to get a program for my new engine config. He has not returned one phone call I have left him on the subject and continues to report that "no one wants to mess with a '93" anymore. I think the "no one" here is ARD. This is going on 3 months. I gave up after the last excuse today. He asked me if I knew of anyone on the "Third Gen" list that does it. Now I have to do his job?! huh2.gif

My recommendation - Don't go there. Spend your money elsewhere.

My $0.02.

Why not let pcmforless.com do your eeprom programming. I'm sure they would get it back to you a lot quicker than those other guys. The guy that does the programming was a GM software engineer and probably did the original eeprom programming for your car.

Me Too,

I tried them first. Their chip was unstable. It would not idle and would not pass emissions. I contacted them twice and their response was, "Are you sure you plugged it in right?" I am certain they have run into this issue a lot, but I'm not an idiot. I did check it, 4 times before I re-connected the battery. After a while, I was able to drive the car and it felt like I was pulling a trailer and it would bog right off idle.

I returned it and they promptly returned my $$. No questions asked.

I have tried another local shop, G-Force in Pearland. They don't return phone calls either. I have called their shop 5 or 6 times and no one answers. So, from my experience, don't waste your money there either.

My next stop is Icon in Stafford. They supposedly bought MTI recently. They are close to my work, so I am going by there this coming week. If I get crappy treatment, I guess I will have to to go to Fast Tech and pay $350.
