Do any of you know the stall speed of the factory torque converter in an '89 Formula 350? This car has the 700R4 trans and a 3.27:1 Aussie rear.

Thank you,

Most factory convertors stall around 1800 rpm.

Follow up to my original query if anyone is interested. I proceeded with the trans change and installed a BowTie Overdrives 700R4 with the stage II build. In addition, I added - at their recommendation - a 2,200 stall convertor.

First, the tranny is great. Shifts hard when required and the shop that installed it knows quite alot about these trannies, in general, although this was their first time dealing with a trans from BowTie Overdrives. They are impressed, as am I.

Next, the recommendation to go to the 2,200 stall convertor was dead-on for my driving needs/style. It launches very hard yet isn't difficult or frustrating to drive.

Next up on the mods list is a gear change away from the 3.27 ratio to something a little deeper. I'm thinking 3.70 but I may settle for a 3.42. Any thoughts.

I can tell you that 3.73's are one of the best mods for those old TPI Cars.
Had a friend with an `87 IROC w/L98 and it really woke that car up.
