ok i need to replace my windshield wiper motor, and i cant get the arm off. i took the nut off but it wouldn't budge. the haynes manual just says remove nut and take off arm. is this just an elbow grease and muscle application and i need to pry it off or or is there something else i need to remove before it can come off. i just dont wanna break the dang thing.

You just have to sorta muscle it off cause it's a really tight fit. At least that's what I had to do when I took a set off of a junked car. I took the nut off and then had to just pry and muscle them off.

There is a special tool that is designed to remove the arms without damaging anything. It looks like a "U" with a bolt screwing thru it and flanges that fit under the arm--turn the bolt down onto the wiper arm mounting stud and it forces the arm off. Big problem here--had the same thing happen to me. Went to the dealer It was like the tool was located on Mars or something. Went to all the local parts houses and they had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe you can find it on the Internet. If you find it, it will pop those arms off really slick.

I think no one knows what this thing is, becuz they are hoping if you can't fix the arms, then a new car will take care of that problem without any work on your part...or their's. happy.gif

laugh.gif That sounds about right with something that GM would do to us, make a special tool and then have it so that no one knows what it's for or where to get it. laugh.gif

I believed I used a puller that was made for battery posts. About the right size you need. Don't know if it's any easier to find. Only used that after I busted the grill(different car) area trying to pry it off.

A top post battery terminal puller works perfectly most of the time. That's what we use at the shop when we can't pop them by hand. Any small 2 jaw puller should work though.

be careful if you pry it off. make sure you dont put too much pressure on the windshield. i was just doing this the other day and my buddies dad tried and ended up cracking my windshield and now its split up the middle.
