Full Version: Some Clutch Questions

OK...might be a dumb question, but are the LS1 cars 6-speed clutch assembly/parts compatible with a 1996 LT1 WS6 6-speed car?

I've seen the LS7/LS2 clutch combo recommended but will that even work in my '96 WS6?

If not, what are some good clutchs for a stock-motored LT1 WS6? Except SPEC...too many bad stories there, don't wanna risk it.

RAM, Centerforce, McLeod...????

Anyone happily running these with a stock LT1?

Thanks

Unfortunately the LS parts are not interchangeable with LT1's
I have heard good things about Ram Clutches and Mcleod. Years ago Centerforce used to have problems with the disc not fully disengaging the flywheels, but they may have fixed that problem by now.

You might try Dal Slabaugh and order an LT4 clutch kit, it'll fit perfectly. It's considerably stronger than the regular OEM, and will last longer, providing you don't abuse it (your definiton of abuse may not be what the factory had in mind, so no gauranties on this one). Installed one in my 94 and initially thought it was a stiffer, but still smooth and easy to use. It did tend to lock up better on hard, full throttle up-shifts. If you want it to slip like the old one, just add grease. I'm joking.

I put the SLP clutch when I did mine. It is ok, but my mom and sister have it slipping after 5k miles. I has handled countless 5k drops and a few trips to the track. It is not rated in stages, but 30% over stock. Check my tech tray for my mods.

Thanks for the tips.

Kinda what I figured with the LT1 and LS1 not working together.

Now I'll do some price searching.

Thanks.

Me Too, I hate to tell you this, but Dal retired a little while ago and is no longer with the same company that he used to be with. Even though most of his contact info is still the same he now works for RMS. Here's a link to the thread about it and it contains the info on how to contact him now and how to contact the place he now works for:

[Thanks for the info Sue--much appreciated. He's a good friend and I'll continue to do business with him. Do you know if he is still giving the discounts that he has in the past? Found and bookmarked the company's website.

I haven't done business with them (yet) but as far as I know they'll still be giving the discounts that Dal was. But you might want to contact him/them just to be sure.
