I use armorall 3 in one wheel cleaner stuff and a gentle brush to get all the break dust build up out...did it just yesterday in fact an they look new...mine aren't chrome, however, so something else may be better for chrome...

I've got the 02 WS6 rims on my 97 so I know exactly what rims you're talking about. Believe it or not, what I use to clean them is Simple Green in a 1 to 10 ratio (1 part SG to 10 parts water) and Windex. What I do is spray the rims with it, wait a minute or two and them gently "scrub" them down with a nylon pad to loosen everything. Once I've done that I rinse them off really good and then wash them off with a good quality car wash "soap". Then once again I rinse them off really good to be sure I got all the Simple Green and the car wash "soap" off them. Then I dry them off real good and shine them up with the Windex and a soft cloth. I do that on a regular basis and to me they shine up pretty darn good.
As for polishing them, I really only use a "wax" on them if I'm going to do a car show and I want them "extra" shiny.
BTW, here's a pic of one of them just using the Simple Green method without using any "wax" on them. They look pretty good if you ask me.

Simple Green, Purple Power, or any good degreaser mixed with water (Greased Lightning is a little harsh and can harm the paint). Spray it on and use as SassySue said, a nylon pad or a soft bristle brush. You can even clean the rubber with it to get the brake dust off. For a good protectant and polish to get off the really hard stuff, I use Flitz Polish and elbow grease.

With the simple green, that's the greatest stuff since peanut butter.

I agree with the Simple Green.. but in my experience.. I used the Purple Power product to "try out" and that stuff took some clear coat off the stock rims after letting it "sit".
IMO those two products are different and should not be treated as competing products....
but this is only my experience...

I use only the same soap (and my "dirty" scrubby) that I wash the cars with, and elbow grease. Then again, I have clear-coated rims and chrome ones on the 89. A periodic coat of wax makes the job go much easier.

Another thing, with the Purple Power by Castrol, don't use it if you've got aluminum wheels or on anything that aluminum for that matter. It can cause pitting and discoloration on aluminum.
