Hi all, just joined the site and wanted to see if anybody can help me on a 1977 Trans Am I am looking to purchase. The car was purchased at Meachum Pontiac in Glendale AZ originally and the seller bought it from the original owner about 18 years ago. The odometer shows 25K supposedly original miles. The onwer restored the vehicle last year. It has the original engine 400 4speed with some upgrades. What stood out to me was the spoiler, front/rear fender flares and side gills were all carved into the original steel, not pieces added to the body. The car was painted red (originally white) and the interior was just re done. I called Dennis Meachum today but he can't Identify the car without the sales invoice. From all the specs, it looks to me to be a Macho TA. The owner is sending me all the documentation he has. I'm just wondering what the car is worth. Dennis said if it is on of his cars, it would be worth close to 3 times retail (guessing around $30000). Even if it isn't I'm still contemplating on buying it. I'm not a car appraiser but know enough. I would rate the restoration a 7 maybe 8 out of 10.

I appreciate any info you can give me. laugh.gif

welcome.gif to TFS Mark! I hope you enjoy yourself here.

As for what that car is worth it will depend on several different factors such as over all condition, if the restore was done correctly and with the correct parts, if you can get good documentation on it to prove where it's from and to prove that it is a Macho TA, etc.

One thing though, it not being the original color exterior wise will make a difference in the value since most collectors would want it the original color that it came from the factory and the same goes for the interior color.

But the best thing I can suggest is to look on places such as eBay, Auto Trader, CollectorCarTraderOnline, CountryClassicCars.com, etc. Just look to see if you can find any listings that are similar to that car and you'll get a good idea on what it's worth.

Oh and a couple of other things that can determine what a car is worth is where you live, the time of year, if it's a car that's in demand and if there are buyers willing to pay to it's worth.

Also to find out more info on it what you might be able to do is go to Pontiac Historical Services online (www.phs-online.com), fill out the form, send in the fee along with the form. Once you do that they'll research the car and send you all the info that they can find on it.

Thanks for your help...I spoke to Dennis Mechum again yesterday for a while and he did inspect the car. The only thing that he may have done is the bodywork as he said he had done that type of work on a few cars back then. There is documentation to show that the car was purchased from that dealership and the miles are actual. I'm not sure if it's a matching numbers car but the owner says it is. I will need to verify. From doing a little looking online, it seems like these cars are selling for good money on ebay if there in good shape with matching numbers and original equipment. I am going to fill out that form and send it into the Pontiac Historical Services and see what they come up with.

Thanks again for all your help.
