So i was over at a friends house helpin put new springs, sway bars, panhard bar on. It was about 1:30am by the time we finished and cleaned up. Went out to White Castle i guess this one is a huge hang out for ricers. Why that is idk. But ya on our way there i was riden shotgun in a 2001 Camaro SS externally looks completely stock. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut under the hood is a whole different story. Hes got a 408 stroker motor which puts out about 540hp at the wheels. Hes got some Kooks headers->no cats->electric cutout->stock catback. Sounds frickin awesome. So ya we pulled up to a stop light and what pulls up next to us a Dodge stealth. He opened up the cutout cause ya i really wanted to hear it i have never heard a cutout in person before and then the light turned green the stealth guned it we heard the wheels spin a bit. Then we just o idk petal to the metal i guess is a good way to put it. Through 1st and 2nd gear wheels were just spinning and smokin once he hit 3rd that stealth was so far back i was just laughin.
But again was not a race just good times.
But was an awesome night met another Formula driver talked for a while.
Saw a Supra there and the license plate was no lie POOPRA. I dont even know what to say about that one.
After hereing that beast i want a 408 with cutouts so bad now. But i think i might abandon my Loudmouth and go with what he had headers no cats and a cutout. Its sounded so mean and

so where you live, cats aren't required or what? Or you just drive without them and when it's time for inspection sticker you just pay the mechanic with a 30 pack or what?

Ya in IL cats are required but when it comes to emissions they dont stick the things on the tail pipes anymore they plug something in to your car and reads the computer. Idk all the tecnical terms but you can reprogram your car to say it passes or whatever its called.

Sounds like a nice little run! Dodge Stealths are a pathetic waste of a car...ugly and slow...the worst of both worlds.
As for no cats on his car, yes you can tune your car at a tuner to get the car to pass, but that will only get you past the emissions...once it's time for the visual inspection he won't pass unless the inspector can see cats on the car.

Illinois doesn't have any visual inspection,it only has "plug and play" emissions where they hook up your car to see if it's throwing any codes - no codes you get to continue to play.

South Carolina does not have any emissions. And Connecticut also bans radar detectors (plus one other one I can not remember)
Running straight headers or open cutouts just draws unwanted attention to yourself is all. Some states have a noise level they use, others leave it to the police officer to determine what is TOO loud.

The limit by law is 95db, however I've found that it isn't too strictly enforced going by the large amounts of cars, trucks and motorcycles by me that are way louder then that. About the only time I've known people, including myself, to have any problems is late at night/early in the morning when going through some of the really small towns Illinois is known for. The cops in those town just love to pull loud vehicles over, give the driver of the car a bit of hassel and then send you on your way with just a warning.
However that being said, I don't know how the cops are by you so you might want to get an electric cut-out that you can open and close with a throw of a switch so you can open it when you want to and close it whenever there are cops nearby to keep the db level low.

OK thanks. Ya thats what i was planning on doing gettin the electirc cutout. Cause i think i might feel bad going down side streets with a really loud car and wakin everybody up.
And that sucks that radars are illegal where your at Freshbake. Since i got my car i really havent used it all that much to be honest. I bought it after i got my first and only speedin ticket when i had my grand prix and it has paid for it self already. I bought one of those $300 escort ones worth every penny.

the good ole boys in blue down here in clayton nc dont really worry about any sound levels with cars....half the ones i know have some pretty sick rides when off duty. they usually just nod at me when i ride broad daylight, cutout open, and they pass by. And its all good if you know some people when inspections come around. The cops cant worry about sleeper trans ams when they got them country boys runnin their trucks with mufflers that look like swiss cheese. they are more worried about the ricers anyway. annoying little trumpets....

I'm almost positive that they are legal in Connecticut. I have relatives who live up there. It may be illegal to have radar jammers, but not detectors. As far as i know, it's always been that they are banned in only Virginia and D.C. I really hate living in VA though, cops are so strict, everything is illegal, and its incredibly busy all times of the day and it's impossible to drive anywhere without getting stuck in a traffic jam.
Here in VA though, the cops haven't messed with my exhaust yet, usually they just drive by. I think they mainly go after the ricers with kung-pow chicken launcher exhausts haha...and i would too if i were a cop
