If any turn signal bulb burns out that whole side wont work. Just check all the bulbs first. If they are all good the flasher may be bad. It should be under the dash close to the ashtray.

i know all the bulbs are good. and what exactly is a flasher? how would i check it?

This is an earlier model but I'm betting it's close to the same place.

Thanks Rob again for the great site.

Check the blinker fluid, it may just be running low laugh.gif

any way to check it? and where would i get a new one? any autoparts store?

I have a question: is it just the blinkers that don't work or is it both the blinkers and the hazard lights that aren't working? If it's just the blinkers it could be one of two things - the flasher or a bad socket (both can cause the blinkers not to work). If it's both the blinkers and the hazard lights I'd look to see if maybe one of the ground wires for the system is broken or corroded as that is just about the only things that can affect both of them as the blinkers and the hazard lights use seperate flashers.

Also there's really not any true/good way to check the flasher to see if it's working or not except to replace it but they're not that expensive.

ok. neither the blinkers nor the hazards work. where are the ground wires? i was thinking of pulling my radio out to see if my DRL system is unplugged because that doesn't work either and apparently the front blinkers run through that.

The grounds that I can remember are located in the rear hatch area behind the carpet and I think there are also ones in the front as well. The best thing I can suggest is to get under the car and hand run the front wires from the sockets and see if they're all ok that way.

As far as the DRLs go and them not working, it could be the DRL control module is either bad or unplugged but it could also be that the previous owner of the car deleted the DRLs from the car. I've known people who have done that, however when they've deleted the DRLs their blinkers/hazards still worked just fine.

hmmmm well today i checked some things out. pulled the bottom of my dash off. when i turn my blinkers on the front flasher still goes "click click" so i'm assuming that's not broken. pulled my radio out and the DRL system is still plugged in. i'll check the grounds but i think i may have possibly found the root of all my problems...

i was looking through pictures of my car today and in one of the pictures my brother took of my car the day before i bought it the DRL's were ON. the day after i bought it(first time i saw it in daylight) my running lights did not work. this same day however, my headlights started grinding and one not popping up. SO the day before i got it the headlights did not grind and the DRL's still worked. the day after i got it my lights started grinding and the lights did not work. could they in any way be related? since the blinkers go through the DRL system?

my lighting seems to be all screwed up. i can't use fog lights or parking lights without my headlights coming up, my DRL's don't work, blinkers don't work, sometimes my headlights pop up when i lock it, sometimes they don't, blinkers don't work, etc. hahah. and i think it was all fine the day before i bought my car.

Ok, now that I have more information about what your car is doing and not doing I can take a pretty good guess at what's going on and what isn't working correctly on your car. There is one item on our cars (later 3rd gen and all 4th gens) where all of those items run through - the headlight control/door module (HCM/HDM). Everything seems to run through that module (headlights, DRLs, fog lights, blinkers, alarm, etc.) and when it goes bad some weird symptons can happen amd when it goes out it usually is without any prior symptons at all.

But the HCM/HDM is located on the drivers side of the car in the engine bay near the headlight. It's a black box and has two "levels" (looks like two flat blocks on top of each other). The bottom "block" is approximately 4 inches by 4 inches and the top "block" is approximately 3 inches by 3 inches and it has two sets of wires running into it (a set of 6 wires and a set of 5 wires). What you want to do is check to make sure that there isn't anything (dirt, road 'sand', etc) where the connectors connect into it and that there isn't any corrosion on the connectors. If they're clean and dry, if you have access to another 4th gen see if you can swap the HCM/HDM out of that car into yours to see if it corrects the problems. If you don't, see if you can find one at a local salvage/junk yard (usually a couple of bucks from there) and swap it out that way to see if that works. I'm suggesting doing one of those rather then getting a new one since you can only get them through a dealer and they're not on the cheapest side ($150.00 plus depending on the dealer).

And don't think think that your car is too new for that to go out either, my 97 was only 6 years old when the one in it bit the dust. sad.gif

Also where do you live? If you're close to me I'd be more then happy to let you swap out one of mine into your car to see if that fixes the problem or not.

thank you very much. i live in northern new jersey. kinda far hahaha. i'll check the HCM today.
SassySue09
You're welcome. Yea Jersey is a bit far away from me. lol Good luck checking it out and let us know what happens.
