ive got a 1999 trans am non ws6, will the volant intake work with a new ws6 hood, or better yet will it work without a ram air hood?

I'm not sure about the Volant intake but I do know for a fact that the LS6 intake works just fine on both the non-WS6 cars as well as the WS6 cars so as long as it's approximately the same height as that one you shouldn't have any problems.

I was actually looking at that same intake....

From the pictures I've seen, it looks like it will work with either standard or WS-6 hoods. I think it just replaces the stock airbox, and seals to the bottom of the hood. If thats the case, since it is open in the front, it should work with either.

Better ask the retailer (or the manufacturer) before ordering though.

I believe the one with the two cone filters is for birds and the single center filter is for camaros.

I seen one on Regular Trans Am no Ram Air hood It Works.
