Both hold up ok. When you start running slicks and launching at 4 grand is when you start breaking them.

You'll blow the sun shell first, best route to go is have a beast shell put in. Keep an eye on the fluid and at the first sign of cooking change it out.

Here's way more than you probably want to know about the 4l60e. If you look at the exploded view the sun shell is the hamster wheel looking thing. I've blow up two, now I have a beast shell. It's the weak link in that tranny.

I agree with Tyler, as long as you're running stock or just have very minor mods and don't use drag radials your rear end should hold up just find. It's when you start modding your car or running drag radials or slicks mainly that you can run into problems and that goes for with the tranny as well.
Some examples: On my 97 I was fine running with just street tires but when I started running on drag radials after about 25 runs I took out like 9 parts in my tranny (expensive lesson there. lol) On my 99, which is pretty heavily modded when I ran it at the track using drag radials shortly after the mods were put on and it was tuned I managed to make 3 runs in total before I blew up with rear end (another expensive lesson but one that I was sort of expecting).
