So here is what I have going on.....I have a 94 Formula. I converted the front end to a 99 Trans am, put a Trans am spoiler and rear bumper cover on it. I am just working on rounding up some rocker extensions yet. But anyway, I came across the complete RAM air assembly for 98-02 front end for a great price so I bought it because although I don't have a RAM air hood yet, it will be coming eventually. So just seeing how things would fit together I put the lower box to the radiator and the radiator support. Aside from the lack of two of the bolt holes, it doesn't quite sit flush with the radiator support. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two models? Is it the way the radiator and condensor are sitting in there (angle or difference size) that make it not sit right? Or is it a different shape to the radiator support that I will have to change to make this fit right?

What do you mean by not sitting flush? Are you talking about how the bottom of the box doesn't sit flat on the top of the radiator support but sits up about an inch?

If that's what you're talking about, that's the way it should fit. With the LS1 cars including the Ram Air Boxes the air is pulled in from the bottom (ie underside) of the box rather then through the top like on the LT1 cars so the bottom of the box won't sit completely flat/flush on the radiator support.

Well if I have the lower box sitting on the radiator support and I look at the hole where the bolt goes through there is a gap there. Looking at the box from the side it looks like there is a gap between the box and radiator support where the bolt goes through it. Shouldn't the box be flush to the radiator support at least where the bolts go through it? I know that it won't all fit flush because the bottom of the box is square and the radiator support has a high section and then it rolls downward to the front. If that gap is supposed to be there...then I will get some longer bolts and go with it. I just thought it wasn't looking right, so I figured I would see if anyone knew how it was supposed to fit. Or if there was any kind of difference in the radiator supports themselves between the models.

Wish we could see some pictures to help you more.
All I can say is make sure the Rasiator and condenser are situated correctly when you put the Radiator support on.
Also please realize that you will need a Firehawk or WS6 Intake bellows to go from the LT1 TB to the MAF and an LS1 Airbox Lid providing that you are going to be using a factory style R/A hood. The Suncoast hoods use the LT1 style R/A assembly.

BTW just an FYI The `98-up Ram Air set up is just a sales gimmick it doesn't add any HP
Unless you debaffle the hood seal it to the Airbox and are going over 100mph you won't see any gains. But it does look Cool.

The top radiator support where the bottom part of the box attaches to is the same for all years from 93-02. But Craig is right, a pic or two of what you're talking about would be of great help.

I'll see if I can find the camera and take some pictures of it. I was looking a little closer at it yesterday and from what I can tell the outside bolt holes and the bottom of the box are formed to fit flush against the radiator support. However, by the inside bolts the underside of the box runs a straight shot from the back to the front, which would be fine if the radiator support was flat in that area which mine is not. I tried to look up pictures of RAM air Trans ams and see if I could tell if it was flat there or not, it kind of looks like it could be, but I couldn't tell 100% because of the shadows. So I started looking on GMpartsdirect to see if there was a difference in the part number. What I came up with there was that I could get a radiator support for the 98-02, but couldn't get one for the 93-97 which kind of supports my theory that they are different. And if that is the case, I could modify the air box to fit my radiator support, modity the radiator support to fit the air box, or replace the radiator support. I'll see if I can get some pictures taken today and post them and you can tell me what your thoughts are.

I think I understand what your saying now and it does make sense that the upper portion of the core support may be different between LT and LS cars since they use different Radiator support pieces. Bolt positions probably changed aswell taking into account the LS1's new air inlet position.

I found a picture that shows the difference in the radiator support....

This is what my radiator support looks like, you can see that it stays raised all the way across. The one on the actual 98-02 model as seen in the previous picture is raised, but goes flat across the center of the radiator support where the air box installs.

Well, I've tried twice to get this other picture to attach, but I'm not having any luck....
SassySue09
Send me the pic that you can't get attach and I'll see if I can get it to attach.

Send it to sassysue09@theformulasource.com
