I was hoping to get some information on tuning my 95 formula's computer, besides the Hypertech Power Programmer. I've heard of using special software and a laptop, but I'm not clear as to what all is involved with tuning the computer that way. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

Yeah, you're most likely thinking of LT1EDIT. It's a very powerful tool, allowing you to modify pretty much anything you want when it comes to your car's computer (and transmission, for A4's like me). But it's really easy to mess things up if you don't know what you're doing...a lot of guys I know that used it just backed up their stock setup in a few places and got someone experienced to write a tune for them.

I'm waiting to get LS1EDIT...but its pretty darn expensive! Still worth it versus a hypertech or something of that nature I believe.

Just google it and it'll be the first site that pops up. Some sort of Tripod site the last I checked.

Appreciate the info. I can read up on the program now that I know what it's called.

LT1Edit and Tuner Cats are the two that I am aware of. Just be very VERY careful if you decide to do it. It can wreak a lot of havoc if you get it too out of whack.

Here's the heartburn that I have with this sort of thing, but first a quickie story: A couple of years ago, went to a Firebird rally at a local McDonalds. Saw this guy with an LS1 2001 Firebird...he had a laptop mounted on the console. Asked him why he wanted to get online while driving the car?? He said it was to edit the PCM while driving. He could do it better than the PCM could--wait for it.... About two weeks later, had my car in the shop to replace differential bearings (after 100,000 miles they were getting a bit noisy back there). His car was there as well. Asked the shop owner what the car was in for after noticing that the laptop was removed. Shop owner said the engine and exhaust system had blown. Put a rod right thru the oil pan and a backfire took out the muffler and the CAT. I asked what happened and he didn't know. It's easy to guess, though....the Fried-bird owner probably forgot, or at some time or another, managed to change the programmed shift and deleted the fuel cutouts. He floored it and the engine over revved. Before he could react and remove his right foot, the rods let go.

The moral to this story is to let the pros edit the program and leave the experimenting to the factory. Somebody like Bob at pcmforless.com can edit the software and can send you updates via email if they are needed. To do updates, if they are required by you, all that is needed is a laptop and the connecting cord (I've actually done this). For your hundred bucks, Bob can do the software program and the free updates. Just my .02 cents worth.
