I have a '97 formula with the stock steering wheel on the car right now. I bought a steering wheel from a trans am that has the radio controls on it. The steering wheel did not come with a wiring harness. I would like to put the new steering wheel on and connect it to my aftermarket stereo. Is there a special wiring harness I need in order to install the steering wheel, and if so where would I be able to find one? I've been dying to have one of these steering wheels on my car and now I finally have it and don't have any idea what I need to get it on. Please help.

I'm not sure exactly what the wiring consists of, but yes you will need to get the wiring setup that comes on the cars with the steering wheel controls. However, because you also have an aftermarket head unit, you will need to buy the adapter to hook up the steering wheel connections with the new head unit.

So you will need to buy:
-Initial steering wheel wiring
-Adapter for new headunit

Where can I buy the initial wiring harness for the car? Any ideas? I already have the adapter, but I need the initial wiring harness.

that would be really convenient, you have a remote for the aftermarket sound.

I'm not really sure where you can get that wiring harness...but the very first thing i would do would be to check out any local salvage/junk yards for any firebirds or camaros that have the steering wheel controls. That will be your best deal. If that doesn't work, i would check out some f-body forums, especially LS1tech.com for anybody parting out their car. Nobody else should want the steering wheel wiring so you should have no problem fighting people for it. Did you end up getting the PAC SWI-X?

Yes I have the PAC SWI X and I have the remote for the stereo in my car. I called the dealership the other day and told them what I was trying to do and the guy at the parts/service desk told me that I needed a $1400 wire set the connects with the computer. I told that guy, that I didn't need to wire my whole car, and he said that that wiring harness included the wires that went down the steering column and into the back of the cd player. This is going to be a major downer if I'm not able to install this steering wheel on the car.
