I've lost several of my lug caps, again. Well, the first time I bought 2 and paid something like 4.50 each. Replaced it and kept the spare. Since they also fit our 2000 Grand Prix GTP, I used the last spare on it. The packaged I saved was GM#9595120.
So I went cruising on ebay for some. I found a guy on there selling a pack of 10 and bought those. In the picture they look like what we have on the cars. But today they got here and I find out that they are the black caps from a C4 Corvette. They have a slightly different look to them, the visible end has a circular depression in it. It's a GM 10 pack baggie, part #10028614.
The seller has excellent feedback. I emailed him and informed him these are not the proper caps for a late model Firebird such as mine. He told me they are the correct cap for all Firebirds. went on to state that he thought I was in error because the FBody's came with the caps he sent me and he knows better. He says my car is a fluke and they must have had old caps laying around. I obviously know better and will be returning these caps to him. They just don't match what I need for the two cars mentioned.
Here is a picture (not my car) of someone else that lost a cap and mixed one of these C4 caps in place of it. You should be able to see which one is the imposter.
I don't think I'm being overly picky, I just want my caps to match. So does GM have a similar 10 pack baggie like this one that sports the correct part number for our cars? If so, what is the GM#? Buying them individually when you have two cars that lose them is a pain and is more expensive that way. I'd like to have a bag of them on hand to draw from.
