Full Version: Wanna Be...Ram Air

I've had my '02 TA NHRA for a few months now and looking into making it ram air. I'm leaning toward the Suncoast Raptor hood , so is their air box setup worth using or something else a better choice? Is the Raptor even a good pick? What are some setups that will work on my unmodified machine? I saw that Fast Toys boasts to be the best ... and theirs draws air in from down low. What to do?... Hmmm

The raptor is a good pick and the best air box for it is the one that Suncoasts sells to go with it since their hoods and boxes are made to work together. One thing to remember with the raptor hood is that it will sit up higher in the center then a regular ram air hood so if anyone who might drive your car is on the short side they'll probably have trouble seeing over it. What you get will really depend on how much you want to spend and if you've got any plans for other mods to your car. But most set ups, as long as they're made for your car, will work just fine with it.

The Fast Toys set up is good too but you've got to remember with it picking up the air from close to street level that the air coming in will be very hot during the summer and if you drive through any type of puddles/water sitting on the road type of deal that you will take a chance of pulling water up into your engine with it.

Thanx for the info Sassy Sue, I,ll start moving ahead with this project but since you brought up the subject, with the air filter uncovered and completely exposed is there a high risk of sucking water into the system if I get caught in the rain? Oh yeah, on another subject I don't think my camera takes pictures small enough for me load them in here. I think I may be Technotarded... ?

You're more then welcome for the info. As for worrying, don't! With the ram air hoods you don't have to worry about any substantial amount of water getting into the filter or the engine really unless you're in a monsoon or hurricane. There's enough of a space between the nostril openings and the filter to keep normal everyday rain and water from reaching either of them. During heavy downpours some water might get into the filter but with the opening under the filter itself it isn't that big of an issue. So put your mind at ease, you'll be fine.

As for the pics, send them to me at SassySue09@yahoo.com and put TFS PICS in the subject line. I'll resize them for you so they're within size limits and I'll send them back to you so you can post them up. cool.gif

Thanx alot Sassy, couldn't have done it with out'cha. That was just a trial run. I'll get better pics soon...that was in front of the house real quick like to see if I could make it work. You know anything about an NHRA sponsered event in Ocean City MD on Columbus Day weakend? Some dude I bumped into said it's a glorious Firebird expo...the smell of race fuel, burnt tires, bad assed machines rollin up and down the stip all day and night! He said it's a site to be seen for an F- body enthusiast. Oh yeah, how do you get that little picture of your four beautiful rides to show up every time???
SassySue09
You're welcome for the help. I can't wait for some better pics.

As for that event, I don't have no info about it but I'll do some checking around and see if I can find anything for you about it and let you know either way.

To get a pic to show up in your signature area the pic has to be hosted on the internet someplace, such as in the Owners Gallery (ie Gallery) on here or on a picture host site such as Photobucket.

Once you have the pic hosted, you need to get the URL for the pic (you right click on the pic, then click on the word Properties in the box that opens up, another box will open and in that box is the URL you need to copy). Once you've copied the URL you paste it into your signature area along with the IMG tags [ img ] before it and [ / img ] after it removing all the spaces in the IMG tags and leaving no spaces between the URL and the IMG tags.

If you'd like a custom signature pic like myself and several others have get ahold of member Freshbake. He's the one that made mine along with several of the others. I'm sure he'd be happy to make one for you also.
