i have a 305 in my 91 formula and as far as i know it's all original except for a replaced alternator. according to the vin it's a TBI which i looked up online and i dont like the horsepower numbers laugh.gif . and i was wondering if it would be a bad thing for the rest of the engine to try to swap the TBI for a TPI from a junkyard or a parts store. and I'm also looking to find out how much time, money, and labor it would take to do this. and as a side note i was wondering if anyone knew how much horse the stock automatic can handle so i dont overload it.

The 700R4 will handle whateever power a 305 can throw at it. Put a shift kit in there and have fun.

From everything I hear, swapping to the TPI is a pain that does not reap enough benefits. There are lots of things you can do that cost less and will add more power to that TBI. Holley makes a larger TB to get more air into the motor. Throw a cam in there with some headers and your picking up more power than the TPI has stock. You can also add 1.6 rockerarms for a bit more hp. You can pick up a used LT1 cam on ebay cheap. I'm going to put the cam from my 97 into my 89 along with a few other things. My goal is to get it into the 14's even if it's a high 14.
