this all started a while back after getting stuck in a large body of water in a parking lot flood. from stop to go i get a sometimes loud pop, like something is sticking and it finally releases. well its getting worse. now it happens at anytime and any condition of driving. i replaced the tranny mount and thats not it. thing is, after i parked, i got out of the car, and it made the same pop noise with the car off! it has to be either a front shock sticking or something else. the front shocks are being changed this weekend anyway, but other than that, what else could it be?

Since the whole suspension got wet, besides the struts/shocks, my guess would be the tie rods/tie rod ends are trashed. The reason I'm saying that is because when one of them on my 97 started to go, it would cause a popping/thunking sound that I thought at first was my tranny mount. When I saw the tranny mount was good I started checking the suspension parts and noticed that the one tie rod end didn't look right when comapred to the other one. After I changed both of them the sound went away and hasn't been back since.
But good luck finding out what is making the noise.

Check your lower ball joints. I have a '90 'Bird and also have a loud "pop"/"clunk" on occassion. Mine is eminating from both lower ball joints. You may also want to check the A-arm bushings as well . Hope this helps. God bless.
