i was wondering how much trouble it would be to convert my formy to a manual...and a ballpark figure of how much it may cost if i get a tranny used at a descent price...
Freshbake
I really wanted to do this too. It costs too much for me cause of the price of T-56's (high demand for those suckers) but for your car i'm not sure how much the trannys run. I can tell you that it is no easy process, and most shops will charge around 1k bucks for just the labor.

look for your tranny in the classicindustries catalog for everything you need, unless you plan on getting a used one somewhere and then rebuilding it or overhauling it.

I'd try to find a totaled car with the stuff you need and buy the whole car. Part out what you can to recover some of the money.

can i use the same everything even if the donor car is a v6? it should be same set up right...
Tyler
The only thing I can see that might be different are the size of the disc & pressure plate and the strength of the pressure plate. Call a parts house and see if they list the same clutch disc for a V6 & a V8. Also do some reseach on the flywheel size so you'll know that the starter will work right.

wouldnt it make sense that V-8s need stronger due to more torque being produced? I wouldn't know since I'm not at all a tranny expert (except in breaking the mounts) but doesnt that make sense?

I would be safe and try to find a V-8 with a manual
Freshbake
I would also find a V8 instead of a V6...there may be differences that you just may not know about, which could cause problems...it's just one more risk you are going to take doing this swap. Try to find a V8 if you can
