Does anyone else have problems with their clear coat....pretty much falling off their front bumper? My car looks like its been sprayed with gray paint , but its just air under the clear coat where some of it fell off...I can scrape more off with my fingernail and I was wondering how to, prevent this and if/when I get a new paint job, how do i keep it from happening?

I'll ask my son this weekend who is a body man and get back to ya. In the meantime, luv the stang in the rearview. Thumbs up, and oh so how true!!

That could be normal wear and tear, or GM had a problem with that particular color for that year. Hard to say. I do know that I have seen this fixed by body shops by simply color coat sanding and respraying it with clear--I've had it done, but not for the same reason. The clear coat is a special paint with a flexible additive added or it is special for the bumpers only. There are 4 different kinds of paint sprayed on the exterior of all Firebirds and Camaros--for the front and rear caps (bumpers), the front fenders, the steel parts and the doors. Most people and body shops don't know that.

I spoke to my son about this problem and he agrees with the above . The flex additive in the clear coat allows the plastic bumpers to deteriorate faster than the steel parts of the car, ( hood, rear quarters, etc)... This is caused by mostly U.V. rays from direct sunlight., making it very important to apply a good coat of wax twice a year to protect the finish. This said the damage allready done, he recommends colorsanding as mentioned above, and especially since its a black car, do a repaint (spot job) on bumper and a new coat of clear. Wait for paint to cure, at least 1 month and wax. Hope this helps. Dave

These are really good tips considering I'll be getting my car back real soon. I want to keep the paint (sunset orange metallic) looking really good. As far as the waxing products, what do you guys use and why?

sunset orange metallic? Im colorblind, (seriously) but your car looks black to me! Oh well. As for wax I know lots of people on here use Zaino. Personally I used to use Mothers but this spring I bought somr professional wax off my son. Auto Magic Banana Magic No. 73 cream wax enriched with banana oil. His price: $30 Gal. Retail well over $100. One gallon if properly stored will last a very long time. Benefits: goes on easy,(buffer or by hand), dries quickly, rubs off easily,NO powder dust residue at all, and it gives the most awesome shine ever.Reconditioning Professional"s #1 Choice. This is by far the best wax I've ever used. I allmost forgot to mention, it will protect for a full year. I've seen guys at car shows with six - figure Mopars that swear by it!
